We're Giving Away Three (3) Copies of 'Coraline' On DVD

The animated film comes home on July 21

I don't do a lot of giveaways around here so maybe this is seen as a big deal, but today I am offering up three (3) copies of Universal's stop-motion animated film Coraline on DVD. The disc hits store shelves on July 21, but this way three RopeofSilicon readers won't have to pay a single penny for it. In my book that's called a good deal.

Entering to win is simple, all I need is for you to fill out the form below and hit submit. HOWEVER there are ways for you to increase your chances at winning. How is that? you ask… Well, I'll tell you.

In the comment section tell me why you should be the one to take home the prize. Yes, the winner is (for the most part) selected at random, but this is one way to randomly steer my eyes in the direction of your name should your reasoning interest me. Just one thing, remember to use the same email in your comment as you do when you submit for the prize or it is a worthless exercise.

Winners will be chosen and emailed for address confirmation once the giveaway ends. Here are all the details you need to know:

  1. You may only enter one (1) time per person. Any duplicate entries will be deleted as well as the original entry.
  2. You must live in the United States to enter.
  3. The giveaway ends on July 24, 2009.
  4. The winner(s) will be notified via the email address submitted. If for any reason a winner does not claim his/her prize a random drawing will be held to determine the new winner.
  5. The decision by contest administrators is final and cannot be disputed.
  6. The personal information submitted for this giveaway will not be given to a third-party and will be used for no other reason than the purpose stated in the rules pertaining to this giveaway.
  7. See below the entry form for the rules regarding tampering with the giveaway or technical difficulties with the giveaway.

Sorry, the entry deadline for this giveaway has past.

*If for any reason, the Internet-related portion of this sweepstakes/contest is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, tampering, fraud, technical failure, or any other cause which corrupts or threatens the administration, security or integrity of the sweepstakes/contest, RopeofSilicon.com reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to terminate or suspend the sweepstakes/contest or any portion of the sweepstakes/contest. ANY ATTEMPT TO DAMAGE OR UNDERMINE THE FAIR AND LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THIS SWEEPSTAKES/CONTEST WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION FROM THE SWEEPSTAKES. Information submitted in Internet entries, including entrant's name, address, e-mail address, etc., may be used by RopeofSilicon.com for marketing or promotional purposes. sweepstakes/contest rules shall be governed and enforced pursuant to Washington State law, excluding choice of law provisions.

I believe I should win because I have never won any 'free' giveaways in my entire relatively short life! and also because this movie convinced me that there is a future for stop-motion animation in Hollywood. I was surprisingly impressed by this movie's beautiful score and engaging story. Interestingly, I'm not even a fan of A Nightmare Before Christmas.

I Can't Think Of Any Other Reason To Win This Other Than The Fact That I Want The Movie. I'm An Avid Movie Collector. I Have A Little Over 500 Hundred DVDs And Would Love To Add This To My Collection. I'm On Disability So I Have A Limited Budget, But I Spend Every Dime I Can On Movies. But Can Only Get A Select Few Each Month. But That In No Way Makes Me More Deserving Than Anyone Else. If I'm Not Picked I Will Buy It Eventually. And I Don't Know How To Thank You For This Site Without Sounding Like A Kiss Ass So I'll Just Say Thanks. I've Been Using This For My Movie News For Years, And Will For Years To Come.

Hey there,
Well, all I can really say is that over the past few years I have become a really big movie person. Without stumbling upon this site by chance I wouldn't be as informed as movies as I am today. And no this isn't a suck up letter, I am just searching in the burrows of my mind for reasons here. I am of those who did NOT see Coraline but I do hear great things about it, and yeah I am a Tim Burton/Danny Elfman/Henry Selick fan (except for the remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory). Every time I see the commercials I get more and more interest of seeing it. I never won anything before, except maybe getting accepted into college. My 20th birthday is coming up in 9 days, and the only thing I want was the box set of 6 feet under, but winning something would be pretty awesome. Also, my older brother finally started talking to my family again, which means I get to see my 7 year old niece again. So having Coraline would be a great way to bond with her. That's all I can think of for now. Thanks if you read this.

I believe I should own this movie because, I too, have buttons for eyes. It's a birth defect called "buttonitis". I feel this movie finally raises social awareness of a condition the medical community has yet to acknowledge.

I would like to be one of the lucky ones to get this DVD not because I want it, but I want to share this with my fiance who is happily learning to appreciate original and unique films such as this. I also would like to share this later with our future child, who we are expecting in January … what better way to broaden a childs mind and artistic enjoyment? Thanks!

I think I should win a copy for a couple of reasons. First of all, I have a black cat just like in Coraline, and she really wants to see the movie. Second, animation with 2 old women stripping down to close to nothing is really hard to come by.
I loved this movie when I saw it in theaters and went to see it a second time. I supported the movie while it was in theaters and encouraged others to do so. Tim Burton and Henry Selick are geniuses.

I should win, because I am in love with you, Brad Brevet.

Uh, I mean…because the movie made 3D animation intellectual and was an inspired children's story that reminded me of 'The Wizard of Oz.'

Also, I'm broke and can't afford to buy it myself.

I think I should win this DVD because I am 26 years old and not ashamed to say I loved this movie :) I took my ex boyfriend's 8 year old daughter to see it but secretly wanted to see it myself and absolutely adored it. It was somewhat awkward to see an old woman wearing nipple stars in front of an audience of kids but I could totally be fine with it while watching alone in my apartment! Coraline's parents also drive a cute lil VW bug in the movie and I drive one as well so that made it even better haha I love dark but cute movies.. perfect mix. I also told my twin sister she HAS to see this so I could invite her over to watch :) Thankssss

Now……. Why should I win? Well, I should win because I'm an old fart who gets a big kick outta watching Tim Burton movies. I love his sense of humor, it's right up my alley. My fav is Nightmare Before Christmas. I didn't win that DVD so I wanna win this one! I actually liked his version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. He bought a dark side to the character that appealed to me. And can't wait to see his version of Alice in Wonderland either. Should be fantastic! Thanks.

I think I should win because I buy so many DVD's per year it would be nice to not have to pay for one. Also, I am a huge Henry Selick fan. I love The Nightmare Before Christmas, James And The Giant Peach, and even enjoyed Monkeybone despite its flaws. And to all of you who claim you deserve the DVD because of where you live, I'm sorry but I live in the middle of Kansas. Do you know how many times I've been asked if I take a cow to school when I tell someone I'm from Kansas? And no matter where I travel when I tell them I am from Kansas they have to make a Wizard of Oz joke. Trust me, that gets old quick. There is not one thing to do in this state so I could really use some entertainment like a free DVD.

I think that i should win this dvd because i LOVE tim burton movies. He is always so creative with what he brings forth to the table. It's like a trip into a mind of a mad genius with beauty. His movies are incredible well crafted with imagination and a deep connection to what is done. I LOVE this movie as well. Dakota fanning always does an amazing job creating those vulnarable characters that make you feel for her even more than you already do. If i can get the chance to win this movie, i'll only get the best chance to add another brilliant movie by tim burton to my dvd collection

I think I should get this because when I tried to see the movie in theaters I could not see the 3d and I will never be able to see 3d because one of my eyes is just slightly turned and its not fixable. Also, I did not have a chance to see the movie not in 3d, and seeing it in 3d just gave me a headache wearing the glasses because I could not see anything.

Don't really have a good reason I should win except for that I would really like to. Didn't get to see the film in theater because when it came out I was at school (Western Illinois University) which at the time only had a two screen theater. Of course after I after I graduated (this spring) they put in a brand new six screen theater.

She needs something to entertain her now!

Over the years I have bought and watched Tim Burton and Neil Gaimen movies, as well as other movies with my family, but I can't get a job (not because I gave up trying either), and I haven't been able to get movies for them to watch. I would very much like to win this so me, and my family could once again enjoy a good movie together. Thanks for the opportunity ^_^

I think I should win because I live in Portland, Oregon, which is where Coraline was made over the last four years. I also attended the world premiere of the film here in Portland back in February, where I met Neil Gaiman, Henry Selick, Dakota Fanning, and Teri Hatcher. This film means a lot to me being that it was made in my hometown, and I feel that being able to own a copy of it by winning a contest would be the most exciting and special way to do so. So thanks for the opportunity, and thanks for running such a great website. I'm on here six to seven times a day just reading about stuff. It's awesome.

Thanks again,

~Shawn

I think I should win because I'm a big enough fan to know that Tim Burton had nothing to do with this excellent little movie (although I am looking forward to "9", which he co-produced.)

Additionally, I think I should win because I have a huge sense of entitlement… and yet the world so rarely lives up to my expectations.

I think I should win a copy of coraline literally because this is the first time I've left a comment on this page despite having been going here for months. Why? I operate online thru blackberry. Reason number 2: I'm at work right now typing this on the clock. The money I made at my job typing this I could use toward the purchase of coraline but I think it'd a lot cooler to win it and spend the money on more cool things for my 7 month old son.

I have not entered this contest for myself, but on behalf of my five year old daughter who is particularly interested in the dark and creepy. After becoming obsessed with The Wizard of Oz at 2, she has since become a movie nut who for the past 3 years has found a true love of films such as The Corpse Bride, Edward Scissorhands and the Harry Potter series and I'm betting that Coraline would be right up her alley.

I believe me winning this contest is only fair because I work at a movie theater for 60 plus hours a week and was never able to watch this movie because I was doing everything in my power to make the public's movie going experience just a little bit better. As I installed our theaters first 3D digital projector with this movie being its debut. I was only ever lucky to see pieces and never the final product of what i worked on painstakingly for hours and hours out of nothing more than love for a quality product…please consider this a wonderful reason to allow me to finally see this movie at the cost of only some blood, sweat and tears!!

Okay — to be honest, I really don't "deserve" to win any more than anyone else who's entered. My only reason is that I saw the "Making Of Coraline" and instantly fell in love. I missed it at the theaters, but will eventually get my hands on a copy…even if that means overcoming my penny-pinching ways and purchasing the DVD myself. Having said that, thank you so much for the chance to win a copy. You rock!

I should win this DVD because my name is really close to Coraline (Carolyn) and I just saw a review on "Attack of the Show" the movie was listed as recommended to buy and the reviewer Chris said the movie made him cry. I need a good cry!

I should win because I'm awesome. No, just kidding…I'm actually a bit dorky and I love to read and therefore, this movie fits me. It's based on a crazy, creepy book for kids and I love Dakota Fanning and I love 3-D films b/c they are awesome and really POP out at you.

And again, I'm a dork. Come on, you have to give us dorks some love every now and then yeah? LOL

Thanks for this greatttt giveaway.

I'd love to win because I'm a big fan of Coraline. I didn't know she existed before late May, when I happened across a reference to the film, was intrigued and thrilled it was still in (a dollar) theater. But I saw it 4 times, jotted down 25 pages of notes and sketches during the movie which I expanded to 180KB of inane but heartfelt memories.

I also bought my first "action figures" because they look cute as opposed to stoic. I plan to take them out of their boxes because toys are for playing with! And a movie poster or three. So while I may not be the biggest Coraline fan around, I loom large for the budget I have. :)

I would like this because it would help me keep connected to my 14-year-old daughter. Any parent of a teenager knows it takes work and a bit of luck to keep that balance going….the balance of your child hating you and tolerating you. LMBO Seriously one of the reasons we get along FOR THE MOST PART is that we like a lot of the same books and movies. ESPECIALLY NEIL GAIMAN BOOKS! Peace.

I feel I deserve a free copy of 'Coraline' in 3D because I thought it was one of the most bat-sh!t craziest movies I've ever seen, as detailed in my blog review here

http://hookersheartofgold.blogspot.com/2009/02/coraline-weirdest-movie-ive-ever-seen.html

Honestly, If for no other reason, I need to see it again as a refresher because I'm still so confused by my first go'round. Plus I'm a huuuuge 3D fan (Friday the 13th pt. 3? whatever was in 3D, saw it!, also Spy Kids 3D, Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D, Shark Boy & Lava Girl 3D, James Cameron's weird underwater adventure in IMAX 3D, Speed Racer in IMAX 3D, do I need to continue? Jaws 3D, Captain EO in 3D (Michael Jackson R.I.P.), various comic books in 3D, that Pixar bullshit 'Up!' in 3D! anything in 3D I'm all over and I need to revist 'Coraline', pleeease, check my blog reviews, let me know, keep in touch, peace out.

Why do I deserve to win this DVD? Because I'll hug it and squeeze it and call it "Larry". And because I'm a huge Neil Gaiman fan. I followed along on his blog during the 2 year making-of period and feel very territorial about the film. I love it! It might be the only movie-based-on-a-book that works. Just exquisitely crafted by people who love movies and love telling stories.

Thanks for the chance.

I have a Neil Gaiman thing, ok? I am a collector of anything that he creates or helps create… or goes near… or disposes of. Well, maybe not that last one, but you get the point. I'm a Gaimanite (and a geek, apparently).

If I jump around like a big dork, and drag my children over here and make them dance with me, could we win this movie? Oh great, now I've embarrassed my teenager who doesn't want this "dumb" movie anyway, my ten year old has started fake kicking boxing around like a whirling dervish, my dog is barking and my cat is so scared she is probably going to find a choice place in the house to leave behind a present. I'm not sure all this is worth it except for the fact that I LOVE Tim Burton. So look at me, look at me! I'm over here dancing :)
