Weisz on Returning for ‘Mummy 3′

Fraser is in, but will Rachel return?

Recently it was announced that Brendan Fraser will once again star in a Mummy movie as the third film is readying itself, but there was no word on whether or not his co-star, the lovely Rachel Weisz, would also return.

Fortunately, thanks to Moviehole.net, we learn of an article over at Ecran Large where Weisz was interviewed and asked just that question. Here is what she said:

I know there’s a new script but I haven’t read it yet. Nothing’s definite yet and should the film be done, it’s probably going to happen next summer. And if so, I would definitely like to be in it.

I don’t see how this movie could be made without her, especially since Mrs. O’Connell has apparently been written into the script. Yup, on top of this little quote Moviehole also includes a rumored synopsis of the film:

The new film will see the O’Connell family – which includes grown-up son Alex – taking on the desiccated remains of China’s first uber-Emperor Qin Shihuang, who wants revenge on those who turned his team into stone all those years ago.

I am not exactly up on Chinese history so I took a quick trip over to Wikipedia to learn that Qin Shi Huang was king of the Chinese State of Qin from 247 BCE to 221 BCE, and then the first emperor of a unified China from 221 BCE to 210 BCE and for all the tyranny of his autocratic rule, Qin Shi Huang is still regarded by many today as the founding father in Chinese history whose unification of China has endured for more than two millennia (with interruptions).

There is a statue of Qin Shi Huang, located near the site of the Terracotta Army, the army referred to in the synopsis.
