Vaughn Not Directing 'Thor'? He Can't Keep a Superhero Job

What is going on with this guy

For anyone that has seen Matthew Vaughn's last two films, Layer Cake and Stardust, I have to assume you liked both of them and are anxious to see what he is going to do next.

At one point we were going to see a Vaughn X-Men 3. That job went to Brett Ratner. Following that we expected Vaughn to direct Thor, which Marvel just announced for a June 4, 2010 release date. However, it appears that won't be happening either.

The Hollywood Reporter has a small note inside one of their Marvel articles with the following statement:

"Thor" will be released about six weeks after "Iron Man 2," and Marvel is waiting for a script polish from scribe Mark Protosevich ("I Am Legend"). Matthew Vaughn no longer is attached to direct the project because his holding deal expired December.

The last time we heard about Thor was back in October 2007 when Vaughn was quoted saying:

My phone has just rung. Marvel loves the script. The only problem is that it has been costed at $300m and they ask how I am going to reduce it by $150m. I think I prefer being asked what it's like working with De Niro.

Looks like things weren't figured out. Too bad.
