USA Today has scored your first look at Nicolas Cage as the title character in Ghost Rider the upcoming Sony Pictures release due in theaters August 4, 2006.

Ghost Rider is based on the comic book of the same name as Cage stars as Johnny Blaze a man with a dark secret - he is the Ghost Rider - who can grab you and force you to re-live tenfold all the sins you have perpetuated in your life… if there are too many sins, you’ll burn up and incinerate.

The Ghost Rider is unstoppable as he dishes out a hellish justice on his Hell-Cycle. Originally created in 1972 by Gary Friedrich & Mike Ploog for Marvel Comics.

Along with the pic Ghost Rider director Mark Steven Johnson told USA Today, “Most of these guys are comic-book geeks like me… Nic is one of the biggest fans of the comic book out there.”

So big, in fact, that the actor sports a tattoo of the Ghost Rider’s flaming skull on his arm. Makeup artists had to cover it for the film. “The irony is we had to remove Nic’s Ghost Rider so he could play Ghost Rider,” Johnson said.

The pic accompanying this article is the one that can be found at the USA Today article here, we are hoping for a higher res version soon.
