In an early draft, Strider was a hobbit.

But now he's not.

I'm not big on this whole second movie deal, but I can't wait for The Hobbit movie.

Just to correct you, Elrond is in fact in The Hobbit, though his part is quite minimal, and could be taken out.

Absolutely, there is no mention of Aragorn in The Hobbit (read it for the 4th time just last week!). However I had a feeling they were gonna do something like this. I'm still gonna be optimistic and say they can put Aragorn's character to good use, how? I'm not sure. Though I think the hint is that he'll have a big part to play in the second film.
