Uh, Guillermo, Aragorn Wasn't In 'The Hobbit'
Non-story makes me nervous...
With every other movie site under the sun picking up on the latest Variety story in which Michael Fleming reports that Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn), Ian McKellen (Gandalf) and Andy Serkis (Gollum) have all been contacted with regard to appearing in Guillermo del Toro's The Hobbit it made me a little nervous. The three are referred to as "three actors whose 'Lord of the Rings' characters also appear in the 'Hobbit'."
There, of course, is a problem with this statement considering Aragorn does not appear in "The Hobbit," which is why I am slowly beginning to think that while this film may end up being a visual marvel the attempts to alter the storyline and create a sequel out of… Well, out of what? May be a bad idea.
Del Toro is quoted saying, "We will all be involved in the script in some fashion but the exact definition is about a week away. I am all for keeping the actors who originated the parts, as much as availability and their willingness will allow."
Okay, that's cool and it makes sense. So Ian McKellen as Gandalf and Serkis as Gollum and boom, you're done.
Bilbo is, of course, younger and Ian Holm won't work this time around, no worries. Oh, and I am sure Hugo Weaving wouldn't mind reprising Elrond (he is in "Hobbit" right?), but beyond that don't go creating roles were there are none, and forget this silly sequel business.
I want Del Toro to make his one Hobbit movie and then get back to making Del Toro style movies such as Pan's Labyrinth and The Devil's Backbone. Don't you?
