'Twilight' Stars Getting $12 Million Each for 'New Moon'

Is a $10 million raise considered large?

If you thought Summit wasn't going to spend more on the recently announced sequel to this weekend's $69.6 million box-office success Twilight think again. Bill Zwecker at the Chicago Sun-Times reports its two leads, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, are set to take home $12 million each for New Moon as Edward Cullen and Bella Swan.

The article says Stewart and Pattinson both only took home $2 million for the first film and will get a $10 million bump for the follow-up as well as a nice percentage of the future movies' box-office take. Both have revealed in interviews they are already signed for a three-picture deal. Can't help but wonder what kind of pay day each can expect for the fourth film, "Breaking Dawn", once it comes time to negotiate that bad boy. As for now only New Moon is confirmed for production, but Zwecker goes on to say a third film is also virtually a done deal, based on Meyer's "Eclipse" novel — though that won't be confirmed for some time. No surprise there.

Zwecker does point out how director Catherine Hardwicke is still unsigned and alludes to a quote Hardwicke gave the AP saying, "I want to be sure that [the second film is] going to be done right. I don't want to rush into it. It's not like 'Friday, the 13th' or 'Halloween,' you can't just do it super fast and knock another one out." Strangely enough that is exactly how they went into Twilight as screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg only had five weeks to hammer out the script before the writer's strike began. Rosenberg has been confirmed as returning to pen both New Moon and Eclipse, she is best known for her writing and producing duties on Showtime's highly successful drama "Dexter".

Stay tuned as I plan on presenting the following question to you all: "Who should direct New Moon?" You can answer in the comments now, but you may want to hold off until I present my argument.

I knew I recognized the name Melissa Rosenburg! The fact that she writes for "Dexter" automatically makes everything better, for whatever reason.

As for the director of "New Moon," this may be taking a page out of the Harry Potter handbook, but I think Alfonso Cuaron would do an awesome job with not just this film, but the final remaining films. He's really the one who made the Harry Potter series what it is today and I just think he could bring a real kind of quality to the Twilight franchise and vastly improve upon the original film, not unlike in the Harry Potter films. Just my initial thoughts after reading this article.

I'll never see any of these movies, so as long as they don't choose a director I like and keep him/her from doing something else I would like, I'm fine with whoever they choose.

Woody Allen or Zhang Yimou…

…my way of saying… it doesn't really matter. They'd both do a better job than Ms. Hardwicke did with Twilight.

the two best director choices for this would be Michael Mann, Andy Sidaris or William Peter Blatty. Andy Sidaris has passed I believe. Most would say maybe Blatty is too old, I say Sidaris was 80 when he directed and wrote Seven. We need some polish and attention to detail in the next movie. This one felt very rushed and the fight/flying scenes were more reminiscent of peter pan (I could almost see the cables holding them up)… than Matrix. Bring in a big name! Scott works really well with female actors, maybe he could help Kristin Stewart smile in a scene or two, because as of now Bella is one dimensional- top full of Dawsons creek teenage irrevrance. Bella in the novel loved her Dad and would cook for him- and was much nicer to her friends at school. Right now Im not even sure she's female. The movie wasnt terrible. The casting was decent. Esme was particuarliy well cast. Alice isnt quite the personality I imagined. In the book she was larger than life- sprite like… in the movie shes missing personality. Someone should hire me.

I think the movie was good, but could have been better. I think it needs a new director. And I agree don't rush into the next one. New Moon is the best book and I for one don't want to see if messed up and underrepresented. GET A NEW DIRECTOR!!!

i don't really know. I think Catherine did a great job. And, also, I heard that they're going to have auditions for new Moon. Anybody know if this is true? I'M SO CONFUSED!

Anyone BUT Catherine should direct! Twilight was such a disappointment that I'm nervous New moon and the others to follow will be just as terrible! Twilight was a choppy, cliff-noted version of the book and the direction was horrible…Edward and Bella were suppose to be in love…that requires not only the characters, but the audience, to get to know them…how can that happen when there was NO dialogue. I'm nervous that Melissa is writing the script and hope that she won't delete all the important parts that she neglected to have in Twilight. I think a bigger budget and better director will make New Moon a bigger success and will attract a wider audience!

@Adam:

Yes, I absolutely agree with you! Not only did he do the third HP movie, but he's also done the movie A Little Princess, so he definitely has a lot of experience with making book-to-movie films. It would be so totally amazing for him to direct New Moon! :D

I hate it when they switch directors! It takes away all the continuity and flow. I thought Catherine was great, I hope she does New Moon plus Eclipse and Breaking Dawn if they go that far.

ugh, and please don't even mention Alfonso he should stay away from franchises.

I agree that New Moon should NOT be rush as Twilight was. I was supprise that it didn't give all the perspective of the book that it should have, only a few important things. I do love the movie and I really don't care who directs New Moon as long as they DO IT WELL!

I don't think anyone could measure up to Catherine Hardwicke. If you've been following the production as much as many fans like me have been since casting last December, you would understand the dedication Catherine and everyone involved had for Twilight. The cast couldn't have said better things about Catherine Hardwicke, and besides, the Oregon weather was crazy while they were filming. Suffice to say, I don't think anyone would have been able to motivate the cast and crew in the freezing wet cold like Catherine. Who else could make the set as fun as she did with cloud dances? People have also said that Twilight was the most fun set they ever worked on. I personally think they way Twilight was directed gave the film emotion.

I just came back from watching the movie (again). And in doing so really do believe Catherine did her thing and did it well. Were the special effects a little rough, sure but budget kinda has to be taken into account. I think some of the effects scenes could have been edited just slightly differently and they could have come across stronger. A few of the meadow shots were a little swoopy and distracting from the connection that the actors were striving for. One aside, Robert and Kristen are brilliant in the movie. Catherine nailed the casting. Hands down. But where I lay fault would be the script. Wow, I honestly felt that Melissa didn't read the book but just used it as reference. So much of the heart and charm of the interaction between Bella and Edward was gone. A few sentances here and there honestly would have made a world of difference. I get the adaptation of a book and only so much can fit into the screenplay. But too much focus was on the bad vamps victims and not in the relationships of the main characters which everyone came to see in the movie to begin with. I read in a review of the movie that Bella and Edward never say "I love you." That alone should red flag New Moon for a new screenwriter. I hope if Melissa does take on New Moon, she pull bits from Twilight and even Midnight Sun and incorporate them into New Moon and try to capture the heart of the books and these characters so that the director and actors have something to bring to life.

I think director, Peter Jackson, would be an excellent choice as the director for any future Twilight movies. Anyone who read any of the Lord of the Rings books, and saw the movies, can see what an exceptional job they did of following the books….those movies did not disappoint, and the acting was exceptional.
I read the Twilight series 10 times (maybe that was my problem, I read the books too many times) and I was very disappointed in the movie…..it could have stayed true to the book like Lord of the Rings did. Also, I can't believe they'd pay the actors $12m each for the subsequent films. Kristen Stewart was very "flat" in the movie–I don't see what all the hype is about her acting ablility, as Robert Pattinson could have been directed to do a better job!

I hope they get a director that actually directs the actors. It seems to me that Kristen Stewart, though I loved her as Bella, rushed a lot of the lines and really didn't work the character like she could have. I think her best performance in the movie was in the hospital towards the end when she truly showed Bella's raw emotion for Edward. I also think that Peter Jackson would be a great director. He really pulled those actors and got some great moments from them. I hope Kristen Stewart will delve deeper into the character of Bella and show more of who she truly is.

please if you hire catherine again, make sure she doesn't do the crappy stunts again. i mean they could have done like 1000 times better with the fast movement and climbing the trees. maybe if the movie is given more of a budget it will be better,

but DON'T EXPECT NEW MOON TO DO AS WELL AS TWILIGHT!!!!! ALMOST EVERYONE SAYS NEW MOON IS THEIR LEAST FAV BOOK CUZ THERE'S NO EDWARD!

and when you think of it that way, why would rob pattinson be getting such a big raise if he's not even in the majority of the movie? taylor lautner should be getting that salary

@Alicia: I was able to appreciate the movie better the 2nd time I saw it. Catherine should be given a chance to direct New Moon and hopefully the producers will give her more liberty – maybe essentials scene for Twilight were left on the cutting room floor?! With a bigger budget and more time to create the movie, I believe Catherine can make New Moon great. One flaw of the movie was that it wasn't long enough therefore didn't incorporate some more of the book, but the essentials of the book were on the movie (though I wish I could say the same for the Harry Potter movies). If Catherine doesn't return, Pete Jackson would be an Excellent choice!

@Paul:
I couldn't agree with you more Paul! I have read all four books many times and the Midnight Sun draft and would love if they incorporated more of the depth of feelings and angst into the script. I loved the way it was filmed…to me it had a kind of Indy film look to it with the darkness and shadows condtrasting with the blasts of occasional sunshine in the exterior scenes. I'm on the Coast of BC and can relate to the rain and the dense greenery that comes with it.
Can't wait!

@Penny:
Hey penny!
Perhaps they will combine books 2 & 3 together or excercise "creative liberty" to gel the content of the books so that Edward isn't missing as much as he was in #2? I agree with others that the subsequent movies should be longer so that the heart of the story isn't lost.
I sat through "Braveheart" many times, so I think an extra hour wouldn't hurt and I am sure that other Twi-hard fans would agree with me! What do you think,everyone?

I read the saga and saw the movie Twilight twice. The first time I loved it just because I love the Twilight saga. However, I was a little disappointed in the movie. When I read the book, I felt the passionate deep true love that Edward has for Bella. When Bella just mentioned Edward's name in the book…I could sense she could not live without him. I felt their infinate love for one another. It made me wish I had experienced that in my lifetime. However, I just didn't feel, hear, or sense the lifetime of waiting in Edward. I didn't get the butterflies that Bella got when she heard or felt Edward. There just wasn't enough time on just Edward and Bella's relationship. I think they hit out of the park with Robert Pattinson as Edward and a very good job with Kristen Stewart as Bella. First complaint when it comes to the actors is the way Kristen portrayed Bella. It was alright but her talent was not shown on screen until the very end. Kristen did not make me like Bella nor did I see Bella's kindness/love for Edward. I didn't feel emotion from Kristen until the very end of the movie. Bella is full of raw emotion ,sincereity, and curiousity. In the first book it lays out Edward and Bella's unconditional love for each other and the future impact it will have on others. The actors didn't. A BIG HOWEVER, I don't blame the actors. They did a great job with what they were directed. Edward and Bella are two characters that we will admire and dream of for many many decades like Romeo and Juliet. Edward and Bella are now eternal. Those two actors came as close to being the vision I had in my mind, as if Edward and Bella walked out from the pages themselves. But I do think they could have had better direction and much better screenwrite. I think the director and writer need to meet the characters in the book and get to know their emotions and wants before they try New Moon. They need to read the saga many many times before they go at it again. People will go see it regardless, but if they don't portray the second book the way it needs to be…I seriously think diehard fans of Stephanie Meyer and her beloved immortal characters will not bother seeing the movies. Instead they will keep the images of all the Twilight Saga characters embedded in they minds without the false influence of Hollywood. Robert and Kristen make this your own. You two ARE Edward and Bella, you just need to believe it yourselves. So now just get Peter Jackson to direct you. Kristen he'll bring it out you like Kate did in Bella.
Robert and Kristen, make me, an old woman believe in magic again.

Why they dont put Peter Jackson for Director or the great James Cameron?
Those directors are great!
And i know like everybody else in the world, that the Twilight Story its a Great Master Piece!!

Please think very well and put a great director on the 3 saga movies of twilight, because they need to do a Big Movie. This is not a simple story like thirteen ghost or Prom Night, or all of those crappy movies are.
Twilight its a story like Romeo and Juliet, or Rose and Jack in Titanic, or Lord of the Rings, and even the Harry Potter!

Please, put a Great Director for this 3 last Sagas!! The time its running, and they need the actors right now. They cant wait a long time. Thats why they need a full power director with a lot of experience and of course, they need Money.

So, its now or never!!!

Please let it be Jackson . I believe Hardwicke put her heart and soul in Twilight (that's part of the reason why it grossed so much) but I adore Peter's work! he will REALLY REALLY do justice to the books! but i'm afraid he'll be too busy with the tin tins, lovely bones and hobbit to even consider it! SUCH A SHAME!
