After so much online speculation as to what the real problem with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was and why the delay, the truth has been revealed via a new behind-the-scenes shot featuring Dumbledore and an on-looking crew. Just look, one person seems out of place. Look closely and you should recognize the glasses, cane and striped shirt. Yup, and apparently he peppered himself throughout so many shots Industrial Light and Magic has had to add additional staff to a new project: OPERATION REMOVE WALDO.
Nicolas Aithadi, visual effects supervisor, said this, “Yes, Waldo has infiltrated our film and he can be seen in almost every crowd shot taking place at Hogwarts.” He continued, “The problem is not these few scenes, in fact the problem is every other scene. Waldo has such an uncanny ability to hide that we have had to go back through the film frame-by-frame and look for him. That is something like 684,000 frames ILM has had to go through just looking for the blasted man.”
Strangely enough Waldo had thought to be long missing. His last bit of original work was scene in “Where’s Waldo? The Completely Crazy Activity Book” in 1995 and after that it was like he completely disappeared. As ironic as it may seem it is true.
His appearance in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has been seen as a blessing and a curse. “At least we know he is still alive,” said director David Yates, “but did he have to delay our movie?”
Warner Bros. has taken some serious heat from fans regarding the 11 month delay of Half-Blood Prince from November 2008 to July 2009 but studio chief Alan Horn seems relieved the truth is finally out there. “So often I have to lie and make up half-truths about what really is going on with any one of our films. We felt releasing this behind-the-scenes image without actually telling anyone he was there would allow fans to realize just how hard it actually is to find Waldo. We just couldn’t make the planned November release and had to delay.”
So there you have it folks. The truth is finally out there and it didn’t take Mulder or Scully, just a little bit of magic.
