Trio Tapped for Ball’s Drama

Eckhart, Collette and Bello to star

Variety is reporting that director Alan Ball has filled the bill for his feature film directing debut as Aaron Eckhart, Toni Collette and Maria Bello join the cast of his untitled drama.

For the film Ball used Alicia Erian’s novel “Towelhead” for inspiration as his script tells the story of Jasira, who struggles with identity and sexual issues as the daughter of a Lebanese-American father and an American mother in Texas during the Gulf War.

In describing the film Ball told Variety, “To me, it’s a story of personal courage, claiming responsibility to be who you are at a very early age and without proper role models to guide you.”

Ball is the creator of the hit HBO television series “Six Feet Under” and also wrote the screenplay for the Oscar-winning film American Beauty.

Shooting on this film begins mid-September in L.A
