Are you smelling an Oscar for Bridges?

The buzz all around has been how Jeff Bridges gives some kind of stellar performance in Fox Searchlight's late season addition Crazy Heart, a film dubbed the country music version of The Wrestler starring Bridges and Maggie Gyllenhaal, whom is also getting a small bit of buzz as a potential lead actress nominee.

The film is directed by first-time helmer Scott Cooper and features Bridges as Bad Blake, a broken-down, hard-living country music singer who's had way too many marriages, far too many years on the road and one too many drinks way too many times. And yet, he can't help but reach for salvation with the help of Jean (Gyllenhaal), a journalist who discovers the real man behind the musician.

Crazy Heart was quickly set for a limited December 16 release and we already have a poster (featured at the bottom of this post), two images (all of which can be found here) and the trailer, which is directly below.

I don't think you can really determine if Bridges is going to be a winner based on a trailer, but I bet you can get some kind of vibe. Let me know what you think in the comments and stay tuned as I am sure we will be hearing more and more about this one in the near future.

You can watch the trailer in high definition at Apple.

If he doesn't win I'm fuckin done watching the oscars. Of those in contention, who else this year deserves it besides him? Clooney and Freeman both have there own, Day-lewis's mantle is plenty-full, Renner scored a great break through with his charismatic performance that's worthy of a fist-time nominee but not a win in my opinion and Firth will also be a first-time nominee who well get his fair share of honors for his fine work. Please people can we give this man an oscar finally for what will undoubtley be an amazing performance in a truly great career.

Randy "the Ram" Robinson is back and ready to tell his story….through song. This December in…Crazy Heart!

Just kidding, Bridges looks fantastic (once again) and looks like he might have a great chance to get his long deserved Oscar.

Looks great, but I didn't see Colin Farrell in the trailer at all. I thought he was in it…

The song that played throughout was beautiful. I have a feeling that people are going to fall head over heels for this film. It just seems so likeable and easy to fall for.

@Kevin: Colin Farrell is in only in two scenes in the trailer and very briefly (like blink and you'll miss him) 1. It looks like him and Bridges are sitting in the cab of pick-up laughing, his head is down. 2. Just after that, it shows Bridges on stage singing and the camera pans slightly in front of Bridges (before fading to another scene) and you see Farrell standing next to him on stage. It's strange that he's not mentioned at all in the trailer, maybe his part is a "glorified" cameo… where his character is pivotal and important to the story, but not that extensive, Like Bruce Willis in the Paul Newman movie 'Nobody's Fool' (i need to track that movie down on DVD, love that movie). Strange though, that his part is being kept "secret" as far as the marketing goes.

@Danny: I finally saw him in my second viewing of the trailer. I guess I was also just surprised that they didn't put him in the credits or put his name anywhere in the trailer.

And of course no more than a nomination, just like Rourke before him, albeit Bridges hasn;t the comeback story, but it won;t make a difference. Any one with a brain knew Rourke deserved the oscar and they gave it to penn, they academy is fucked. Without doubt no question about it. Even is Bridges gains plaudits he won't win it, even though we all know the man is long long overdue one.

Like Rourke, Bridges could get the Golden Globe but lose the Oscar. But Gyllenhaal is developing into a solid contender.
