Trailer for Richard Kelly's 'The Box'

I would press that button so fast... or would I? Dilemmas

I seem to be one of the few people in the online world that doesn't think Richard Kelly's Donnie Darko is a very good movie. However, to continue the insanity I am also one of the few people that didn't hate Southland Tales. Of course, the C+ I gave Southland in my review will prompt people to say I still didn't like it all that much, but that's what happens when you only look at grades and don't actually read.

Next up for Mr. Kelly is The Box, a film starring Cameron Diaz and James Marsden as Norma and Arthur, a couple with a young child who receive a simple wooden box as a gift, which promises to deliver its owner $1 million with the press of a button. However, pressing this button will simultaneously cause the death of another human being somewhere in the world… someone they don't know. With just 24 hours to have the box in their possession, Norma and Arthur find themselves in the crosshairs of a startling moral dilemma and face the true nature of their humanity.

The trailer has just debuted giving us our first look at the feature, give it a watch and weigh in with your thoughts. I would also love to hear some thoughts on Donnie Darko and Southland Tales. Anyone else with me or do I remain in the minority?

The Box will be released by Warner Bros. on October 30 and has been rated PG-13 for thematic elements, some violence and disturbing images.

Watch the trailer in high-definition at Moviefone.

Im too sure on this one. The basic plot could have a lot of potential, but the trailer showing all these effects and the whole shindig with Frank Langella tormenting the couple sorta throws it off for me and puts it back with the mainstream crap thats been out recently.

I for one really liked Southland Tales. It was a huge change from the usual movies that are coming out all the time.
Donnie Darko I thought was good, but not some great masterpiece.
This movie kind of looks like Richard Kelly is selling out…

1) I actually think this movie looks pretty decent from the trailer. At least it's main question is thought provoking, UNLIKE most movies that come out these days. *cough**Transformers**cough* Would you be able to press the button and still sleep at night knowing you killed another human being for money?
2) Southland Tales didn't thrill me, but it wasn't NEARLY as bad as everyone said it was.
3) Donnie Darko is pretty okay the first time you see it. After that is loses it's novelty.

Kelly at least comes up with something other than the recyled trash that hollywood is spewing out. Southland Tales is one of my favorite movies, and Darko is good but Ty had it rigth it tends to lose it's novelty after each watching.

looks like a lot of overly emphasized button pushing in that movie… and I really don't care for Cameron Diaz, but it looks interesting enough that I may consider watching anyway…

I never let an actor or actress turn me off of a movie, can't quite wrap my head around doing that. Cameron Diaz doesn't bother me, anyway, though.

The trailer looks interesting, a bit cookie-cutter for my tastes, though. The movie looks like it will have gorgeous cinematography and lighting. I hope this turns out to be a good escapist thriller with a mindf*ck or two thrown in.

Loved Donnie Darko (fantastic acting throughout, except for Drew lol), really made me think for a long time afterwards. Watching it over again a few times I picked up on things I missed the first time out (the car driving by Donnie at the beginning, the radio dispatcher's voice at the very end giving a huge clue as to what just happened), and it only made me love the movie even more. Southland Tales was ok, not nearly as bad as everyone wanted to believe but quite a drop of the ball by RK.

I've seen Donnie Darko a few times now and I'm with you Brad, I don't get the hype. It's an interesting movie, and one I think everyone should watch. But to me, it's a lot like the Boondock Saints in that these movies have such a rabid fanbase, yet, they aren't the strongest films by any stretch of the imagination.

I don't understand why everyone loves Donnie Darko, let alone why it merited a surely inferior, straight-to-dvd sequel. Found it weird and boring, and I really couldn't care for any of it.

As for this new one, it seems interesting. I'm sure it's gonna try to have a "Shyamalan" shocker type ending à la Sixth Sense.

looks sorta like it wants to be some type of Lynch/Fincher hybrid but it still looks like a conventional thriller
