Trailer for 'Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time'

Will this video game adaptation stand out from the rest?

The trailer for Disney's Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, a film based on the video game, has debuted online. The story is set in medieval Persia, Earth's mightiest and most mysterious kingdom, where a king and his son defeat the powerful Maharajah and kidnap his daughter, looting his palace of priceless treasure, including an extravagant hourglass, and a mysterious dagger.

Prince of Persia stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton, Alfred Molina and Ben Kingsley with Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) directing. It is due in theaters on May 28, 2010.

Check out the trailer below and for more on the film, including eight pictures, click here.

I didn't watch the trailer, so I have to ask, does it look like this will be a successful video game-to-film adaptation or will the lackluster trend of failed attempts continue?

looks like pirates of the carribean meets 300 with a splash of Indiana Jones…and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Wow… that's extraordinarily faithful to the game in look, tone and spirit (with a little Assassin's Creed thrown in for good measure). Nice job… here's hoping the movie comes out as fun.

Could be good , Mike Newell is a great director. But the trailer paints it as a predictable cheese, with Disney attached it probably will be.

I will have to see more because this trailer is basically filled with tons of special effects (involving sand) and bits of humor between Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arterton.

The relationship between the prince and Farah (called Tamina in the movie) was one of the fun parts of the game as well as the awesome platforming. The trailer does depict the prince performing some wall-jumping which looks really cool.

The one thing that looks weird is using the dagger to go back in time. It almost looks like the prince is turning into sand when he is using it.

No final word yet, but Disney is behind this, so I expect it to be at least decent.

Looks like it is being faithful to the video game, which I love. The banter back and forth is just lie the game, and I saw quite a few signature moves from the game in there. Possibly a little CGI intensive, but at least it isn't in 3D.

Hopefully it's more than just a blockbuster, but it may just be mindless action. Too baadd.

Yes, it looks like something significantly more than the recent attemps. I mean this in terms of box office, however, not in terms of quality

Based upon Pirates of the Caribbean, which was not the best but at least a solid and well executed film, I can say I am actually happy that Disney is doing this one. I've never played the game but I think it will at least be fun to watch and nice to look at.

Their's no trend of failure in a line of Resident Evil movies, Silent Hill, Hitman (sequel coming), Prince Of Persia, etc.
But there was Chun-Li, so yeah, maybe there is.
But most of the even the bad ones were better than most of the other movies.

Prince Of Persia will probably be the ovveratted one that will spark Halo to be made, which I can deal with.

I have always been optimistic about this movie, though I have no idea what the game is about etc. This trailer is what I expect this movie to be, which is an entertaining action-packed ride. I just hope it is not too cheesy.

Mike Newell is helming this one and I have a good degree of confidence with his work. The trailer was solid and put this on my radar for next summer.

This actually looks pretty good, way better than I was expecting.
It looks very faithful to the video game. My only concern is that it does look an awful lot like a mix between National Treasure, Pirates of the Caribbean and Indiana Jones

not impressed, looks very generic run of a mill action, adv flick. not digging the chick's English accent either, if they ever, make uncharted into a movie, i don't want bruckheimer anywhere near it.

@ddurden33:

Bruckheimer's not near it Avi Arad is attached to Uncharted as well as Mass Effect but anyway onto the trailer, i like it, looks interesting and similar in vein to the games and as i'm british didn't mind the english accents at all, in fact Gyllenhaal's accent was surprisingly decent

It looks faithful to the videogame, but…
A little to Indiana Jones-y.
The original Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (it's from 2003, but looks like I played that game for the first time in another life!!) features more of fairy tale kind of feel.

Like the old typical Disney fare, you know?
If you watch the trailer from the game you'll see that. (btw, the trailer for the game is much more interesting than the one from the movie!)

This movie looks like a mix of Indiana Jones with the exaggerated epic feel from the Pirates of Caribbean movies. The game itself is more 'modest' in tone. Which why it was so cool. It's the (now rare) kind of game that says to you 'let's have fun, but JUST have fun, whatever with the awesomenesses-craps' =P

i hate trailers like this. i like the cast. i like mike newell. and i liked the first pirates film. but this looks like pure garbage.
Gyllenhaal ain't no johhny depp. his accent sounds ridiculous. the action seems over the top and plain silly.
i wanted to see this until i saw this trailer.
this reminds of wild wild west.

@K Monney: i wasnt dissing british accent in general, believe me i love brit and aussie accents, but imo its getting a bit over played in hollywood these days, why not get a female lead who is more exotic looking with a mid east accent for a change ? my other prob is gyllenhall doesnt look the part either, believe me im half persian, i know they didnt even make an attempt to find someone who looks the part.

I don´t know… I think this could be really good… However, not for the videogame fans… At least not for me. I am a game adicct, and honestly, Prince of Persia is a very Dark Saga, and very mature… This film should be something like the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, or at least Harry Potter saga (Half Blood Prince)… Not Narnia or Pirates. I love Pirates of the Caribbean, but this should be very different… And I think it won´t.
