Trailer for Niki Caro's 'The Vintner's Luck'

Not really doing much for me...

Niki Caro's The Vintner's Luck will have its North American debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and now a trailer for the romantic drama has found its way online and I must say I'm not particularly moved by it.

The film features an impressive cast made up of Vera Farmiga, Gaspard Ulliel, Keisha Castle-Hughes and Jeremie Renier telling the story of a peasant wine-maker (Renier) in 19th century France and his life-long relationship with an angel (Ulliel), as they grapple with the sensual, the sacred and the profane in search of the perfect vintage.

Caro made a big splash in 2002 with the impressive Oscar-nominated feature Whale Rider which earned Castle-Hughes an Oscar nomination. She followed that up with North Country, which I thought was a pretty good flick, but it didn't really interest audiences much at all. Vintner's Luck is her first film in four years and perhaps it has much more to it than this trailer offers and I am sure we will find out once it finally screens at TIFF. For now, give the preview a watch and let me know what you think in the comments.

This is one I've been eager to see, given that I L.O.V.E. Whale Rider and enjoyed North Country. I was anxious to see Castle-Hughes in a more adult role, too.

Unfortunately the trailer is pretty "meh" for me. Hopefully we'll hear some good things from TIFF.

I think the trailer is very romantic and beautiful but definitely downplays the intense relationship between Sobran (the vintner) and Xas (the angel). I absolutely love the book think Renier and Ulliel were perfectly cast, so I'm waiting for more on the movie before I get disappointed.

I've read many comments from people who love the book and are very disappointed with this trailer. We're all hoping there is much more about the relationship between Sobran and Xas in the actual movie. Otherwise, why on earth bother to make it?

I think the trailer is stunning and exciting! I can't wait to see the film. Hope it's in the U.S. soon! Curious what people think is "Meh" about the trailer?
