This has a sloppily sentimental and bombastic feel. Amelia Earhart was a complex and interesting person, living in a rarified time. This looks and sounds pure stereotypical formula. And Richard Gere?!? Couldn't they get an actor? How is this film Oscar BP material?

I don't like Hilary Swank for whatever reason, but she looks pretty good in this. Ought to be interesting, she has won twice before, and Meryl she isn't, the Academy may very well be over her at this point.

If this gets a best pic nod, it will be for one of the new slots, not one of the original five. Meaning it will be placed in there because it has to, not 'cuz it deserves to. Other than that it seems like a good performance vehicle for Swank and Gere. More for Swank. I'm hoping it's Michelle Pfeiffer's year though.

Ohh i disagree with all the three posters… Mira Niar is a fantastic Director and her work speak for herself… am sure this movie is going to be fantastic as well and will earn everyone involved a well deserved recognition ( award/nomination) and it might just get Hillary Swank a third one… but if she looses it better be to Michelle Pfieffer… i know i know its too early to talk oscar noms… but the heading sorta opened the door on it…

@Viral: Never too early to talk about Oscars on this site… Prepping the doors for The Contenders 2010 this weekend as a matter of fact.

Totally agree. I love how this site highlights the movies to watch out for for Oscar consideration well in advance.
