Trailer for Clint Eastwood's 'Invictus' is Here

Sometimes I just get a feeling...

Well, I guess that seals it. My prediction came true as last week I asked if we would be seeing the marketing for Clint Eastwood's Invictus begin and surely enough it has as we got the poster last week and now Apple delivers the trailer for the film telling the story of how Nelson Mandela (Morgan Freeman) joined forces with the captain of South Africa's rugby team, Francois Pienaar (Matt Damon), to help unite their country.

Invictus hits theaters on December 11 and is being looked at as a sure-fire Oscar contender for Best Picture, Director, Actor and Supporting Actor among whatever technical awards one can find. Check out the trailer directly below or watch it at Apple in high definition.

I didn't watch it so I will let your comments tell me what I should be looking forward to. Is it Oscar bound? Does it look like everything we expect from Eastwood? Let me know in the comments below.

You called it Brad. We've finally got the trailer.

I'm definitely marking my calender for December 11th. From the looks of it, this has got major Oscars written all over it, and in a good way. Morgan Freeman doesn't just resemble Mandela, but I think he feels perfect for the role. Matt Damon looks pretty good too. Clint Eastwood is certainly on a role. I would be shocked if it wasn't up for Best Picture, Actor, Supporting Actor, Director, and whichever screenplay category it fits into, for starters.

'Invictus' will without a doubt be the best film of the year. It looks like it is going to be a masterpiece and Morgan Freeman might pull his second Oscar.

i've been suspicious of this one for a while, and I've gotta say the trailer has me rethinking that stance. I can't really see it getting more than a Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor nomination though.

This will win best picture if the Academy decides it's time to stop being adventurous and give it to traditional bait.

I am a little underwhelmed by the trailer. I still hope it is good, though.

This has potential to go down into greatness.. story of Nelson Mandela has been been waiting to be told and in Eastwood and Freeman it might have found the perfect vehicle… not only from historical standpoint i believe the story of rugby as a sport will also delight sport movie lovers… history and sports Eastwood and Freeman – It CANT go wrong.

"My prediction came true as last week I asked if we would be seeing the marketing for Clint Eastwood's Invictus begin"

What's there to predict? The film comes out in December so of course the marketing has begun.

Let's briefly review the file on Mr. Eastwood; and for the sake of space, let's just look at his directorial career beginning in 2003.

2003 Mystic River (Nom. Best Picture, Nom. Best Director)
2004 Million Dollar Baby (Best Picture, Best Director)
2006 Flags of Our Fathers
2006 Letters from Iwo Jima (Nom. Best Picture/Director)
2008 Changeling
2008 Gran Torino

Let's face it people, the guy has hit his stride and I don't see that stride slackening at all. With Clint directing, Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon starring and given the epic scope of the film, this picture is a dead-lock for:

Best Picture
Best Director
Best Actor – Morgan Freeman (or Matt Damon)
Best Adapted Screenplay

Will it win? Who knows; but I'm quite sure the Academy will nominate Invictus – if only for political reasons. And hey, maybe Clint will win a Nobel Peace prize :-) Just kidding

Clint Eastwood is a genius, this has Oscar written all over it. Not just because there is weak competition this year, but this looks great. Morgan Freeman will most definately get a best actor nom as well

These thoughts are Oscar in a nutshell. People decide what is worthwhile before seeing the product. You expect this to happen. You hope it will happen. You ground for a specific director, actor, movie. Based on prior experience and a trailer! The final product seems to be beside the point, just an afterthought. As I said, a nut shell.

Damon and Freeman's accents aren't the most covincing things, but they're not the most important things in a performance, at least not for me. The film still looks very hopeful and inspirational, something people are looking for right now. I'm sure that oscar voters will eat this up.

Morgan Freeman has always needed to play Nelson Mandela. He just looks so perfect for the role, and he's an excellent actor to boot. I can't wait to see him and Matt Damon together in this film.
