‘Tonight’ Peter Berg Comes

New director boards Smith superhero starrer

Peter Berg marks the third director to join the Columbia Pictures superhero flick Tonight, He Comes starring Will Smith. Jonathan Mostow and Gabriele Muccino both left the production citing creative differences.

The pic is expected to begin shooting in May 2007 for a summer 2008 release. The pic centers on a superhero (Will Smith) who crash-lands in Sheepshead Bay, N.Y., and causes chaos as he romances a local housewife in an attempt to revitalize himself. Variety reports the role of the housewife has received quite the rewrite and has turned the role into one coveted by actresses. Charlize Theron is the favorite to take the job.

Once filming in New York on Smith’s current pic, I Am Legend, ends, which is expected to finish as late as March 2007, all will jump head first into Tonight, He Comes, whcih will be set in Los Angeles.
