Yeah, I think the re-shots may have helped it's chances. I'm optimistic that it might turn out to be good, though I can't believe Tom Cruise has an American accent (judging from the trailor).

That, or it could also have something to do with Wagner's departure. I mean, a film about the Nazi party boasted as a "holiday film"? Hmmm, not so sure about that.

I understand the screening went well, but according to whom? Not media sources as far as I know. It may be an attempt to just dump the pic and move on. I hope it's because it is a good movie because I am a Cruise fan but I remain skeptical.

I think the movie is going to be good. The talent from script to director to cast is strong and I always thought the movie looked good based on the trailers.

The whole thing about the accents is a little ridiculous to me. Cruise or anybody else having a german accent doesn't make the movie any more authentic. They'd be speaking german. Not english with german accents. The accent thing only really comes into play for me when the movie takes place in other english-speaking countries and they should have english or aussie accents or something — and don't. Kevin Costner in Robin Hood comes to mind. But I could care less than Morgan Freeman sounded as arab as an eddie murphy fart.

I agree the accent aspect is stupid. Either speak german or decide if you wanna go with british or american accents. English with german accent is just idiotic.

Most period flicks seem to go with english/british accents, and it tends to work. I think they should've stuck to that. American accent in period flicks sounds silly (unless it's an American-based movie).

Just like in "Rome". They are all speaking British instead of English with an accent. It works very well.

Yeah, the accent thing is extremely weird, which is why I think Cruise was a bad choice for this film. As much as I like Cruise as an actor, he is an All-American style actor and had he even tried an accent I really think it would have thrown me off. An assumption of course, but when it comes to Cruise I can't even imagine him trying a different accent.

I can't remember, but did he try one in Interview with the Vampire? Maybe just a little bit of a subtle Transylvanian style accent?

I saw the movie last night, and totally agree with you guys on the accent thing. It was SO noticeable–he sounded like he was from L.A. And even people in Los Angeles during the early to mid 1940's didn't sounds like that. All across the board, it didn't fit. The British accents seemed to work okay, but his voice really stuck out. Honestly, so much so that I couldn't get it out of my mind during the entire movie. It wasn't a bad movie otherwise, but I think they should've just gotten another actor to play the role- probably a British one.
