Tom Cruise, Denzel Washington and David Cronenberg Teaming for 'Circle'

My attention is peaked

Variety just sent out an interesting note saying Tom Cruise is in talks to star alongside Denzel Washington in The Matarese Circle for director David Cronenberg.

The film is an adaptation of the Robert Ludlum thriller scripted by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas (Wanted). In the film Cruise would go head-to-head with Washington as two bitter enemy spies who, after spending two decades trying to kill one another, find themselves in the crosshairs of the Matarese, a powerful group at the root of a conspiracy. The script contemporizes Ludlum's original Cold War premise.

By the sound of it this sounds like it is pretty much a done deal with things coming together quickly with an expected release in 2010.

I gotta say, the prospect interests me a lot as I remain a loyal Cruise fan and you can rarely argue with Denzel or Cronenberg.

Sounds great – I always watch any movie with Tom Cruise or Denzel Washington – both are on my top 10 list of actors – and the movie content sounds right up my alley – sure to be a good one.

As much as I like Cruise (Say what you will but Born On The 4th Of July, Magnolia, Collateral, Jerry McGuire, Risky Business and Tropic Thunder proves this guy has talent.) and Washington, I can't be the only guy here who's first thought was thank God a studio finally has the balls to give Cronenberg a big budget spy thriller!

Cronenberg!! Squee! I always look forward to some nice lovely Cronenberg! Cruise and Washington don't hurt, either.

This might be the one to put Cronenburg where he should be; at the top! He is very talented and has a great imagination. Can you imagine the two mega stars trying to out-wit each other, then they turn around and team up against the bad guys? I have not read the book, but I am sure if Ludlum is the author there will be plenty of story there to work with.
This sounds like a 'must see' for 2010!

Don't get me wrong, this has peaked my attention and I do have to give Cronenberg his due because he is a great director. If I have one thing that bothers me about Cronenberg, it is that it appears to me that he frequently leaves too much on the table in his movies. I feel that a lot of his movies could have been epic, but chose to leave too much of added value story out of the movie and were just great instead. That being said, I think he is a fantastic director and anything he is attached to, gets a large portion of my attention.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh man. Cronenberg's first big budget action flick. I CAN NOT WAIT! I am a die hard Cronenberg fan. Seems he's departed from horror, but very gracefully.

Cronenberg! Cruise! Washington! Hell yes, I'm on board! Not sure if a spy-thriller is Cronenberg's strong suit, but I'm confident this will be a great film. Also, its so nice to hear a lot of people saying nice things about Cruise. His personal life may suck, but I gotta admit I'm a sucker for that million-dollar-smile. Bring it on critics!

Out of curiosity, does anyone else think there should be a Mission: Impossible IV film?

Yes, I definitely think there should be another Mission Impossible, but that should be the last. Somehow, I dont see it happening though.
