Snow White and a few horror treats
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (Platinum Edition)
| I just posted my review of this one (read it here) and I tried to keep it as short as possible all while managing to gush all over it. Seriously, this baby is packed with goodies and the film simply looks spectacular as Walt Disney's first feature length animated film comes to life in high definition. Snow White is 72-years-old and boy does it age well.
I reviewed the two-disc edition (or three-disc if you count the included DVD version of the film), but there are a ton of additional versions to buy including the collector's pack featured in the image to the left and then one that comes with a bunch of stuffed toys. Oh, and if you buy it at Amazon you can enter the promotional code SNOWHITE and save an additional $10 on the 3-disc Blu-ray edition making it only $9.99. Now how can you not click on that "Buy Noy" button below? |

Audition: Collector's Edition
| A lot of genre fans love this film and I am sure there are others of you out there that also hold it in high regard, but I'm not sure if it was the big build-up or what, but I watched Takashi Miike's Audition earlier this year and it really didn't do much for me. Sure, it's not terrible, but I just don't understand the overwhelming love some folk have for it. What am I missing? | |

Trick 'r Treat
| I have been told the Blu-ray review copies for this one are on backorder, but I should be receiving one shortly and at that time I will be sure to get a review up, because I don't know about you, but I am interested to see if the fanboy fuss over this flick is the real deal or just another example of meaningless build-up from an army of folks that get off supporting films very few will ever see. I have my fingers crossed, however, and can't wait to give it a shot. After all, I love a good scare. | |

Year One
| This movie is awful. Do not watch, buy or rent it. | |
The Children / The Thaw / Offspring / Seventh Moon
| I have someone working on DVD reviews for all four of these films and expect to have those reviews up this week, or at the very latest this same time next week. This is a group of four direct-to-DVD (or Blu-ray) horror films from this past year including the likes of Amy Smart and even Val Kilmer. When it comes to horror, such as Trick 'r' Treat above, I don't think you can judge it based on whether or not it found theatrical distribution. Look at Wrong Turn 2 for example, that one never had a theatrical release and it was fun as hell and even spawned an upcoming Wrong Turn 3 which is expected to hit shelves on October 20. You never know, these could be great. The only problem is that they are a little pricey, which hurts the chances of recommending you just scoop up all four and see what you think. But never fear, we got you covered… that review will be coming soon and maybe one or two of these will be worth a look. | |
