This Week On DVD and Blu-ray: January 27, 2009
Bourne, Woody, Polanski and Kirk Cameron!
This week is a breath of fresh air compared to recent weeks as we have more than just one title to talk about with Jason Bourne coming to Blu-ray and the film I deemed to be the best of 2008 coming home on DVD and Blu-ray. We also have the very good Roman Polanski doc and the old school Pink Panther Collection arrives with the original Pink Panther available on DVD and Blu-ray.

The Bourne Trilogy
I already reviewed this box set and you can read that here, but here is a snippet from the review if you want the simple version:
The set is listed at $64.99 at Amazon, which isn't necessarily that expensive when it comes to a Blu-ray set and since these three titles aren't available individually on Blu-ray this may be the only option for HD Bourne for the time being. Considering a lot of Blu-ray titles are listed around $25 and up at Amazon getting these for $21.63 each is a mild bargain… mild. |

Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired
| This is a title I don't necessarily think you should buy, which is something regular readers already know about me when it comes to documentaries since I don't think they are worth watching more than once, but it is definitely a doc you will want to see if you know anything whatsoever about Roman Polanski and his unlawful sexual encounter with a 13-year-old oh-so-many-years ago. My theatrical review of the film can be found here and I will tell you it is a bit of an eye opener. | |

Zodiac (Director's Cut)
| I couldn't bring myself to review this film again since I already reviewed it theatrically, on single disc DVD and then again on HD DVD. Considering the Blu-ray features are exactly the same as the HD DVD you could go ahead and read that review and make your decision. I like this movie and I think it is definitely worth owning, but it is a slow and methodical kind of thriller and certainly not for everyone. | |

Lakeview Terrace
I did not like Lakeview Terrace but I am glad I saw it and I am glad I read Roger Ebert's review of it as he gave it a glowing review as a result of making up virtually a completely different film than what was seen on screen. Here's a sample of his review:
I did not connect to the movie on any level, let alone on the level Roger did, but it may be worth a watch just to form your own opinion and give his review a read. |

Fireproof
| Back in early October the movie world was abuzz as the Christian themed Kirk Cameron starrer Fireproof, which was made on a $500,000 budget, made $6.8 million in its opening weekend at the box office. I don't know anyone that has seen it, but it is currently the #1 seller this week at Amazon ahead of Bourne on Blu-ray and Vicky Cristina Barcelona with the Faith-Based Three-Pack pulling in at #4 which includes Fireproof, Flywheel and Facing Giants. Go figure, there is an audience for everything. | |
