'The Dark Knight' is Now a Worldwide Billionaire
It finally made it over the hump
Over the weekend it finally happened as Box Office Mojo is reporting The Dark Knight has cracked the $1 billion mark in worldwide box-office receipts with a current total said to be $1,001,082,160 with just over $533 million of that coming from domestic box and almost $477 million from the foreign markets.
This places the Batman sequel in the #4 spot in the all-time worldwide charts behind Titanic ($1.842 billion), The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King ($1.119 billion) and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest ($1.066 billion). Based on the numbers it looks like this will be as high as it goes, but I must say reaching $1 billion no matter if you look at inflation numbers or not is an impressive feat.
Just last night The Dark Knight took home two Oscars, one for the late Heath Ledger and another for Sound Editing and there is an obvious fanbase that has a large amount of support for the film. It has certainly shaken up the landscape of film and placed itself as a film all others will strive to equal and will always be compared to.
