The Hangover and Up might get nominated if there's too many biopics that start to split the "biopic vote".

One of the reasons that Slumdog Millionare won was that Frost/Nixon and Milk split the biopic vote. Chicago won because The Pianist and The Hours split the biopic vote

Plus Shutter Island is postponed to 2010, so Up and Hangover can overtake Shutter.

Ok, I just clicked on the link and I must say, you guys did a wonderful job on it. The Contenders page looks beautiful. Great job!

Also, I was very surprised to see that you didn't include "Shutter Island" in the Best Picture chart. Why is that?

Marion Cotillard was superb in Public Enemies. I too expect her to get awards kudos for her performance. The Hurt Locker was tremendous, it is a sure bet for a best pic nomination. I'm not much into animation, but UP blew me away. It is NOT garbage, and it too is a sure bet for a best pic nomination now that the slots have expanded to 10. I'm hoping 500 days of Summer gets a nomination too.

The Hurt Locker and UP are as good as locks for 2 out of the 10 spots. I don't see a raunchy R-Rated film making it, but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for The Hangover to make it too.

@Brad Brevet: Not to be picky sir but,

"For those expecting to see Shutter Island leading the early predictions or at least mentioned in the top slots may be confused as to how a Martin Scorsese film isn't listed as one of the top ten contenders for Best Picture. The answer is simple, I have little faith in an adaptation of Dennis Lehane's novel to be anything more than a potentially decent thriller"

You specify best picture my thought was on Director. As it happens I agree with your assesment on the films chances 100%. However, Marty getting a nomination, to me, is at least at this point in the game totally reasonable, based on the Academy's proclivity to loving his films in general.

Maybe it's just me being picky cause of my well documented thought that Scorsese is a top 5 film maker all time. Just a thought...

UP and The Hurt Locker are definitely staking claim to 2 Best Picture spots already, and I'm fairly confident they'll both be nominated. The Hangover and Trek were standouts this summer too, but I just don't think they'll crack the list. I'm eager to see these "prestige" films and other anointed awards contenders this fall/winter, to see which ones are worthy of awards buzz.

I just saw The Hurt Locker and WOW. That movie being 7 is probably a tragedy! But i disagree with -T and feel as though listing movies no one has seen based on talent involved and expectations is the only way to go about examining "contenders" this time of year.

Good to see Brad has the good sense to have DDL as #1 Actor. He has a nomination at least locked down just from the trailer for Nine, in which he didn't rally do much, considering it's a musical and he did not sing.

I don't think Matt Damon will get nominated and hope that Jeremy Renner does. The whole cast (all three of them really) were exceptional in The Hurt Locker.

Have not seen any of the Actress potential nods, but I love Natalie Portman so she should be higher.

Unless he is GOD AWFUL I fully expect Kodi Smit-McPhee to be nominated and not win. The academy loves kids who act.

Supporting Actress is a total enigma, who is Monique? why isn't "The Streep" number one? Confusion abounds.

And director...
...
OHHHH I see, Brad, good sir, You seem to have forgot that Martin Scorsese is directing a picture this year, based on a beloved novel. An honest mistake. Other than that looks great, am excited to see how things progress!

(Seriously Marty not even in the top 10!!!!!!!!!!! I am Outraged!!!!!! as you can all see by my over use of exclamation points!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Brad, I can honestly say that you've lost it. You aren't allowed to include movies nobody has even seen or finished yet especially when we still have 5 months left of movies. Plus get public enemies off your lists, it's michael mann's worst movie hands down.
