Plot points and cast details
Warner Bros. sent out an official press release announcing the start of production on Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins as it got underway on May 5, 2008, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Yeah, for those of you that actually thought the title was Terminator: Return of the Terminator I am sorry, you fell prey to a vicious prank.
Anyway, the official cast list was announced as Christian Bale stars as John Connor, Sam Worthington stars as Marcus Wright, Anton Yelchin stars as Kyle Reese, Charlotte Gainsbourg stars as Kate Connor, Moon Bloodgood stars as Blair Williams, Common stars as Barnes and Jadagrace stars as Star. And before you go looking it up, no one knows who Jadagrace is… Sorry.
As for the plot, here's the official deets:
In the highly anticipated new installment of The Terminator film franchise, set in post-apocalyptic 2018, Christian Bale stars as John Connor, the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet's operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind.
No mention of Arnold Schwarzenegger, but wouldn't that be a great surprise cameo, but an official release date is currently set for one year from now, on May 22, 2009.
Christian Bale is confirmed to star in all three of the proposed films in what is being called a new Terminator franchise independent of the first three and McG is directing this initial installment from a script by Michael Ferris and John Brancato.
