Teaser Trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's 'The Last Airbender'

Is it bendy enough for you?

I have never seen Nickelodeon's "Avatar: The Last Airbender" and I have not watched the new teaser trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's live-action adaptation The Last Airbender which just arrived online in anticipation of the film's July 2, 2010 release.

I know this is a title that has many fans in constant concern so I have to wonder if this teaser hits the mark or misses badly. Lemme know…

The Last Airbender revolves around a young hero who has the ability to manipulate the elements and stop a ruthless nation from destroying the three other nations.

Wow. This is awesome. Way better than I expected. And, yes, I cried tears of nerd joy when I saw the Fire Nation fleet. Sweet, sweet tears of joy.

Avatar is one of my favorite shows, so I'm really excited about the movie. So far, it looks fantastic, but we've only seen Aang and three other scenes. There's been buzz about the casting, so we'll have to wait and see the other characters, how they look like, etc.

Good so far. CGI looks a bit cut and paste but it's only a teaser.

I used to get excited whenever I heard: a film by M. Night Shymalan; however, the guy's 50-50 now after making 3 bad films in a row – let's face it, he hasn't made a quality film since 2002's "Signs".

However, even though I haven't seen a single episode of Nickolodeon's hit series, this trailer has piqued my interest. The visuals were top notch and the trailer had just the right feel of mystery and ominous goings on. Based on the trailer, I guess, I'm in.

Don't let me down Night, show me what a good director you once were.

Looks absolutely awesome. The Fire Nation fleet looks sweet and Aang's airbending looks very impressive. Shymalan may finally be able to break out of his "slightly scary plot-twisty movies" (which I loved his first 4). This could be the start of a great trilogy.

I really hope this movie is better than "Signs."
But the movie looks pretty good. With this movie, Iron Man 2, Narnia 3, Alice in Wonderland, A Nightmare on Elm Street, I think that's it actually…

Well, I always said Shyamalan should try his hands at an adapted screenplay instead of an original work, seeing as his original pieces have lately gotten too far off the mark. I can't say I'm entirely satisfied with his choice of source material, but the trailer looks good, and I'll wait until the reviews come out before I'll decide for or against it.

I think Shyamalan is still going to screw this movie up. I hate all of his movies except sixth sense and unbreakable. Village, Happening, and Lady in the Water were atrocious. Signs was just plain ok, I don't get why so many liked it. Anyways, Shyamalan did the screenplay for this movie and I can't help but to think that he put in one his signature stupid plot twists at the end. We can only wait to see, but I think this is going to suck compared to the anime versions. We'll just to wait and see because I've lost all confidence in that director.

I can't believe Shyamalan cast white actors to play the Tibetan monk kid and the Inuit siblings. i don't know what the hell he's thinking.

I really like the teaser trailer. I am so excited that they've did decide to make this awesome cartoon into a movie. I believe the cartoon is brilliant and should be watched by more adults; and parents with their children. The morality themes, the character's depth and story lines are amazing.

(Side bar: BTW, I am a 38 yo black woman and childless. I guess I'm a perpetual child at heart because I still enjoy watching cartoons. Its sorta like comfort food for me or like chicken soup for my soul…lol I got my 7 yo nephew and many of my adult friends, both men and women hooked on it now.)

Give it a chance. I hope it's as great as LOTR. Peter Jackson got some flack initially with his casting and direction but look how it turned out – brilliantly. Also, this is a live action movie trilogy and some liberties will be taken with the characters. You can not expect the cast to look "exactly" like the cartoon nor any of the "bending". Also, expect a condensed story. Although, I must admit that Dante Basco would have been a better fit for Zuko. I guess because of his age. They're gonna cast the main parts with younger folks. Glad to see that the cast is somewhat international. All the bending forms are equated to true Chinese martial arts style:

airbending is Bagua
water bending is Tai Chi
fire bendiing is Northern Shaolin Kung Fu
earth bending is Hung Gar

If Keanu Reeves and Uma Thurman could pull off martial arts fighting in a movie, I'm confident that this cast can….lol. Besides the lead is already a true martial artist. Based on the trailer, it doesn't seem like there will be a lot of wire work. Thank goodness for some realness!

Personally, I like the tattoos on Aang's head. Buddhist monks did tattoo their bodies with symbols. Done so for spiritual reasons of course. Although this is an alternate universe, I think M.Night's goal is to root in some authenticity.

More importantly, I hope M.Night can keep to the story and its direction. He better do justice to this great cartoon series!

I've watched all of the episodes of Avatar on nickelodeon. So far this looks pretty okay. The kid who plays Aang looks right and the airbending looks cool. The guy who plays zuko doesn't really look right so far. Just his skin tone and stuff. The firenation people are supposed to be pale where the water tribe is supposed to have a darker skin tone. But I don't really think stuff like that will ruin the movie. It's just small details. The Fire nation fleet looked cool.
All in all it looks pretty okay so far.
