Tarantino Confirms ‘Inglorious Bastards’ as His Next Film?

Is the World War II flick finally getting made?

Quentin Tarantino

I had to look back in time on the site and I came across an article I wrote back in September 2005, quoting an MTV article in which Quentin Tarantino was asked about what project would be his next. It turned out his “Death Proof” half of Grindhouse became his next film, Kill Bill 3 still surfaces every now and again, Sin City 2 looks like it may never get made, Vega Brothers will hopefully never get made, but it appears Tarantino’s World War II film may actually get the greenlight.

The film is called Inglorious Bastards and back in 2005 he said he had been working on it for “like five years” and now in 2008 JoBlo.com has come across an interview with Tarantino out of Cannes in which the JoBlo’s Canadian roots came in handy as he was able to decipher the French in the video located here and tells us Tarantino’s answer to “what is next?” resulted in:

The next movie I’m doing is my World War II movie. I just finished up the first draft and if ALL GOES WELL, I will be here, in Cannes, in 2009 with INGLORIOUS BASTARDS!

Personally it’s not that it is a World War II movie that excites me. It’s not that it is Tarantino directing a Tarantino script about World War II. It is quite simply that Tarantino may actually have a completed film by May of 2009 that really excites me.

The reported plotline follows a band of U.S. soldiers facing death by firing squad for their misdeeds are given a chance to redeem themselves by heading into the perilous no-man’s lands of Nazi-occupied France on a suicide mission for the Allies.

You can watch the interview here, but just a reminder, it’s in French.

This is an UNNECESSARY WWII film. At this dangerous time of age, I don’t want to see another freaking WWII film! I don’t care if it is directed by Taratino. I rather see a Vietnam flick than this overrated tired old genre.

I agree, it’s just great news that we might have a new Tarantino film next year. Even if it did come from the man himself, which means the source may be less then reliable.

On the topic of it being a WW2 film. I get the feeling that is less of a film about WW2 as it is just set in WW2. But hey, that’s just my impression.
