Clint Eastwood clearly isn't done yet. Gran Torino cracked $10k per theater and won the weekend going away. I had it doing better than most projections, but I definitely didn't see the win coming. Let's break it down.

#1 movie predicted correctly: 1 Week in a Row

1. Bride Wars
I'm giving this one $6,909 per theater, the exact same amount Fool's Gold opened at. Yes, I'm aware they are completely different movies. I just think that somehow the ratio of people willing to pay to see it is the same.
Estimate: $20.7 million

It was the biggest opening weekend of the year… $130m for the top twelve films, to what can we attribute this? I'd say the Thursday holiday made people stir-crazy by the time the weekend rolled around. It couldn't have been the movies, could it? Nah. So how is it possible this is the biggest [...]

1. Marley and Me
There aren't any new releases, so this weekend is all about how much each film will fall… and how much the box office should do overall. I'm betting that the top twelve don't quite hit $100m. Historically the first weekend of the year is [...]

In hindsight Marley and Me had broader family appeal. Bedtime Stories was for the kids, but Marley made a play for the adults too. You can't fault the Fox marketing department for that method, it clearly worked. It was also the biggest box office weekend since July when Dark Knight opened. Actually, it was [...]

For the record these are four day totals. So if you're going to weigh in with a comment try to rock some four day comparisons.
