Summit Entertainment has the chance for a big 2009 with some bonafide features in its sack and following up the late year bank account bulge thanks to Twilight, which will see its sequel, New Moon released in November. Other than that you have the intriguing Paul McGuigan feature Push, a return to the big screen for Alex Proyas with Knowing (although this one worries me), Kathryn Bigelow's The Hurt Locker (brand new trailer for that one here), the delayed Brothers Bloom from Rian Johnson and the animated Astro Boy, which I know a lot of people are interested in.
All the cast, director and synopsis information is listed over the course of the next few pages as well as all the release dates for 9 new features. Gallery links have been added for all films where applicable and
Enjoy!

Academy Award® Winner Nicolas Cage (National Treasure: Book of Secrets, Leaving Las Vegas) stars in KNOWING, a gripping action-thriller of global proportions about a professor who stumbles on terrifying predictions about the future — and sets out to prevent them from coming true. His increasingly desperate efforts take him on a heart-pounding race against time until he finds himself facing the ultimate disaster — and the ultimate sacrifice.

When a new sergeant, James, takes over a highly trained bomb disposal team amidst violent conflict, he surprises his two subordinates, Sanborn and Eldridge by recklessly plunging them into a deadly game of urban combat. As the men struggle to control their wild new leader, the city explodes into chaos, and James' true character reveals itself in a way that will change each man forever.

Can't speak for the rest of the Summit releases, but I CAN tell you that Nic Cage worked HARD to make me and my daughter look good in our upcoming flick, "Knowing" (don't blink and you might see us as looters on the steps of a downtown "Boston" government building or running past the driver's side window of Cage's pickup truck as he slowly drives down a street through a riot…unless our scenes were cut). Okay, maybe _we_ — as extras, hired here in Melbourne — were helping make him look good. (And since no one here knows what I look like, it might be hard to spot me and my kid — but watching, and helping, the film get made was fun — and after seeing the trailers, it certainly looks like it will be a fun action flick.
Not sure why but im kinda looking forward to Push.
Oh Boy! the only ones i might waste my time on is Astro Boy and Knowing. the others look to be typical Summit crap!
What is up with Nic Cage's career? Didn't he make something called "Next" that was really similar to that a couple of years ago?
I'm lookin forward o push, New Moon, and Astro Boy. I'm not looking forward to Knowing, I don't really like Nicholas Cage movies.
Aimee: Don't think of it as a "Nic Cage" movie — think of it as a Dtshindler movie. Go see "Knowing" and support your not-so-local movie extra (even though a LOT of time was spent in the old, hurry-up-and-wait Armed services game, I think I'd enjoy working as an extra on another film — and will probably do so if I get the chance again.
Until then, until I become famous as a world renown movie extra, my autographs can be had at a bargain: $50 each (see Brad for details)
(And yes, that's a joke…so don't everyone deluge poor Brad for autographs).
push could be good, but several months ago i saw the trailer for knowing and have been engrossed w/ the idea ever since! cant wait for another cage haircut… but in all fairness great actor
I do want to see "Push", but Camilla Belle in any mainstream movie pretty much screams "crap movie" ("10,000 B.C., need I say more?). I'm an Astro Boy fan, so definitely up for that one. I'm also becoming an unapologetic "Twilight" fan, so "New Moon" is a must. Although I love me some Alex Proyas (pre "I,Robot" days), and "I Know What You Did Last Summer, House Bunny", er, "Sorority Row" has some nice eye candy, I can't really se me watching any other films here.
Hey ATL ROLLER: Not so much haircut as hairpiece…although I think he's been using the same one (or ones) for the last few films, since they stay on pretty well.
Well i wanna see "bandslam" only because Lisa Kudrow is in it. And i loved her in friends so i have been waiting to see her again
It looks like Summit is trying succesfully enough to become a major production company. Cheers to them.
