Spidey Has the Best Friday Ever

Just as I suspected, y'all were hongry!

Friday's dollars are in for Spider-Man 3 and they are mammoth. The webslinger took in $59m at a record breaking 4,252 theaters. Those 4200+ theaters showed Spidey on an estimated 10,000 total screens too, clearly the chains were ready for the mayhem.

For comparison's sake the previous record was Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest which grossed about $56m last July. It should be interesting to see if the Pirates franchise can reclaim its record in two weeks.

What's this mean for you? Well, if you're planning to see Spidey this weekend expect to see a whole mess of humanity at the movies with you. It also means this weekend's projection (by me) of $142m is looking solid.

Oh yeah, one more thing, the other opener, Lucky You, finished Friday in a pathetic sixth place with a sad looking 900k. Dismal.

Check back in tomorrow and we'll recap the whole thing.
