Spacey Confirmed for ‘Man of Steel’

Superman Returns follow-up has been the talk of the town lately

While I haven’t written anything about all the back and forth banter concerning whether or not and when Bryan Singer is going to shoot Man of Steel, the follow-up to the rather disappointing Superman Returns. All that wondering can go away now as Variety reports the film will indeed be shot, but not until after Singer finishes filming his WWII thriller Valkyrie starring Tom Cruise and The Mayor of Castro Street.

However, word is that the plan is to get Man of Steel into production next year with a summer 2009 release planned. On top of that we learn that Kevin Spacey will be back as Lex Luthor as he hopes to shoot his Luthor role in a six-week block, as he did on Superman Returns, after he completes his run in David Mamet’s Speed the Plow in April ‘08.

There is no word on the storyline Man of Steel will follow, but we do know that Michael Dougherty is penning the script right now.
