Sorry Trekkies, No ‘Star Trek’ Movie in 2008
This is going to make folks upset...
Well folks, it looks like Paramount’s new division head, John Lesher, is already making waves as not only has he decided to move J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek from its Christmas Day 2008 release to May 8, 2009 he has decided to move more Paramount flicks as well.
On top of the Trek move Paramount has moved David Fincher’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button from its November 26 release to December 19; Case 39 is moving from August 22, 2008 to April 10, 2009; Nowhereland is moving from September 26, 2008 to June 12, 2009; Tropic Thunder originally scheduled for July 11, 2008 will now be released on August 15, 2009; and Revolutionary Road is now a Paramount Vantage release.
A few new release dates include a new Wayans brothers film that is currently untitled, which revolves around a rich, white girl from the suburbs who finds herself on a series of misadventures when she moves to the mean streets of the inner-city. That film will be released on February 6, 2009.
And, finally, Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island (not Ashecliffe which was rumored to be the new title) has been set for an October 2, 2009 release.
Word around town is that these moves are related to the duration of the strike only, and not as a result to script problems. However, you have to admit that all of these films now have a lot of time for reshoots with new dialogue should they need work, which is just fine with me. We want the best product they can make.
