Snyder Loses Two and Finds Two for 'Sucker Punch'

He's almost talked to all of young female Hollywood for this one

Jena Malone

Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch sounds to me like it could be a lot of fun, but many of the names that originally had me a little more excited about it have all dropped off, namely Amanda Seyfried, but now we learn Evan Rachel Wood and Emma Stone have dropped out as well to be replaced by Jena Malone and Jamie Chung.

The film is set in the 1950s and is described as "an 'Alice in Wonderland' with machine guns." The story centers on Baby Doll (Emily Browning), a girl confined to a mental institution by her evil stepfather, who intends to have her lobotomized in five days. While there, she imagines an alternate reality to hide from the pain and in that world begins planning her escape, needing to steal five objects to help get her out.

Malone may in fact be just as good a score as Wood as both are fine actresses. Malone takes over for Wood playing Cornish's younger sister while Chung replaces Stone and will play Amber, a country girl with a big heart. Both characters are inmates. Word is Wood and Stone both dropped off due to scheduling conflicts.

Chung was recently seen in Dragonball and will next be featured in Summit's Sorority Row, while Malone was last seen in DreamWorks' The Ruins and has a role in The Messenger, which is still without a distributor.

Filming on Sucker Punch is set to begin this fall with a October 8, 2010 release date already scoped out by Warner Bros.

Jena Malone is a super-solid choice. In fact, of all the actresses you've mentioned in the article, she's second only to Evan Rachel Wood. She'll be a fine choice.

I would have liked to see Emma Stone play this role. She is a very beautiful, young woman and she has a certain characteristic that I find delightful on the screen. It is hard to put my finger on what it is I like about Stone so much but I do. I think Malone is a very good actress as well.
