Smit-McPhee, Moretz and Jenkins Cast In 'Let Me In' Remake

I am sure this will ease some of your concerns

from left to right: Kodi Smit-McPhee, Chloe Moretz and Richard Jenkins

Almost a year ago to the day I asked Who's the Next Big Male Movie Star? and along with names like Emile Hirsch, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Shia LaBeouf I included the possibility of then 12-year-old Kodi Smit-McPhee as he was just about to have his coming out party with John Hillcoat's The Road. As it turns out, it's a year later and we are in the exact same position as The Road is finally making its way to theaters on November 25, but the buzz on McPhee hasn't slowed down and he is now set to become even more of a potential star — at least among those in the online world.

As if starring in a post-apocalyptic feature wasn't enough, The Hollywood Reporter now confirms Smit-McPhee is set to star as Owen, the young boy at the center of Let Me In, the English-language remake of Swedish horror movie Let the Right One In for Cloverfield director Matt Reeves and Overture Films.

Alongside him will be Chloe Moretz playing the part of Abby, the role originated by Lina Leandersson in the original and a performance many lauded from all corners of the globe. Finally, Richard Jenkins (The Visitor) is also aboard playing Abby's adult ward, the character you will remember as Hakan from the original.

The film follows an overlooked and bullied boy named Owen who finds love and revenge through Abby, a beautiful but peculiar girl with the weight of the world on her shoulder who turns out to be a vampire.

Many may have seen the title Fish Head used for this remake, but don't get worried that's not the title as confirmed by production company Hammer Films, listing the film as Let Me In on their official site. Assumptions lead me to believe this is simply the shooting title similar to how Reeves used such shooting titles as Slusho, Monstrous and even Cheese when shooting Cloverfield.

Principal photography on the remake begins this fall in New Mexico for a planned 2010 release.

For those interested and curious, Chloe Moretz was last seen as Rachel in 500 Days of Summer and will star as Hit Girl in Matthew Vaughn's April 2010 release Kick-Ass, which you can see her in character right here.

I will not be at all mollified until they change the name back to "Let the Right One In." Elsewise, nothing else will satisfy me. Changing the name represents so many levels of stupidity that I cannot even begin to trust any of their other choices.

The original name of the novel and the movie is "Let the Right One In" from the Morrissey song "Let the Right One Slip in". The author is a big fan of Morrissey. So it's really more accurate than the Swedish title, actually. The American publisher thought that was a far to long title, so they shortened it just for the American book release to "Let me in". It's the only country in the hole world that retarded title of this story exist. And they continue…

I won't give it money. The original was perfect enough. The girl doesn't have the natural look. The title "Let me In" is stupid. Matt Reeves did Cloverfield. Cloverfield and Let the Right One In aren't in the same ballpark.

it's people like you who continue to box actors and directors in to one certain genre. just because an actor doesn't traditionally look the part doesn't mean they won't be great as the character, and just because Reeves directed Cloverfield doesn't mean he won't do well with this film either. furthermore, how can you hate the title when it's the original title of the book? you're exactly the type of person who continued to perpetuate stereotypes within the industry. think outside of the box for once, and maybe check your ego at the box office…you'd be surprised what you'll find. don't be ignorant.

I was worried when i heard they were remaking let the right one in. Which is damn near perfect. This what freaking true blood and twilight should aspire to be. And a real shame i hear more about them than let the right one in. But back to my point, I am getting more excited about the remake the more i hear about it. Love cloverfield. And can't wait to see The Road and (500) Days of Summer.
