@Keven-Yes you are rite buddy…here in India some people thinks it's a bad representation of the country…but hell with their thoughts…Slumdog is all about realism…it's a harsh truth that people are not ready to accept….We have the biggest slum in our country and people talks about representation…they forget it was written by an indian who probably knows more than those intellectual brats here in India as he is a diplomat(Vikas Swarup)…..hell with what others thinks….Slumdog rocks!!!!

@carl: Sound I agree on, but I think the editing and cinematography in Slumdog are worthy and think Slumdog is the frontrunner for editing and will probably battle Dark Knight for cinematography. I would say The Reader for cinematography, but I think the subject matter of the film poses a problem for voters when it comes to the beautiful cinematography by Menges and Deakins.

Hi everyone. I'm really dissapointed to see that you all people think so bad of Slumdog. Frankly, i've seen all of the films contenders for the Oscars, and none is better than Slumdog. It got it all, a masterpiece. Now, don't tell me that because its a film about indian people, that it should not get so many awards, don't tell me its because of that. If ever that same film was made with americans , with the same splendour, you would all agree to it winning all the oscars nominated for. Now, seriously guys, watch the film as it should be, the same as you would watch others like Milk, Benjamin Button, Wrestler, TDK and others. Btw, TDK is a great film too, in the range of Godfather, should have been nominated for best picture. Even if, Slumdog would get it anyway. Even Best Sound should go to Slumdog, if only you could listen to the marvelous sound of AR Rahman, its such a beauty, cannot be compared with others, as it outstands them all. Put all films on the same level, and then compare, you will see the difference. Slumdog speaks a truth, that many people should see, taking the contest of Who will become millionaire apart, what the film shows and the way it shows it to us, is really a chef-d'oeuvre. It should win all the awards its nominated for.

FROM BRAD: You have made a lot of assumptions based on nothing. Never a good way to start a conversation. Also, Best Sound has nothing to do with Rahman's music.

@carl-You are saying Slumdog doesnt deserves awards for Editing??? r u nuts????it may lose in everything but not the editing award….and Cinematography should win coz Anthony Dod Mantle provided the fodder to Mr.Dickens with the best footages in the store…so think b4 u say….last year Atonement won Best Picture both in Golden Globes and BAFTA…but i hope the Editor and the users of this site would agree that No Country for Old Men was the Best of the lot….i still think movies like Reader and Milk can give a fight but it may go in vein….the USP of Slumdog is it's technical work….yes i agree with people about Sound Editing….WALL-E & Dark Knight are the best contenders for it…hey Brad why dont you make your predictions in the technical categories….speak up buddy….we need some new fire to burn after reading……….

I still say Milk all the way for Best Picture. Though i'd be content with slumdog. Boy the brits are pretty biased when one of their own does well. I still think Kate Winslet shouldn't get best actress. Yeah, she is an extraordinary actress but she doesn't have the best performance this year. I'm rooting for Wall E to get best sound for sure. Oye gosh dudes, pipe down about Slumdog (that goes for everyone around the world around the worrrrrrrrld). Is anyone in agreeance with me that In Bruges deserves an oscar for screenplay?

@Brad Brevet: I think the Oscars for sound will be split between TDK and Wall-E. Personally, I think Ben Burtt and the rest of the guys behind the sound of Wall-E deserves it both. However, If Ben Burtt goes home empty handed, then they should close down the entire sound branch for good. On a side note, Down to Earth just won the grammy for film song and another one for instrumental arrangement or something like that.

am i the only one kind of annoyed with Millionaire's huge success???I think it's just overshadowing everything else and i am kind of tired watching these indie flicks winning all the awards and then dissapearing after a year, just in time for the next indie flick to take it's place..I think that Frost/Nixon was an AMAZING film, with amazing performances especially from Langella, and also Benjamin Button ranks pretty high up in my list..but Milionnaire is slowly dominaiting every important category(Director,Picture,Screenplay)i mean it's a good flick but not that that good…

It does get quite silly when Slumdog wins best Sound. But I'm used to it at this point. Cinematography wasn't deserved either, but it's the front runner so it takes most of the awards just to help its cause of Best Picture.

Mickey Rourke gave the best speech I've ever heard. Kate Winslet and Heath Ledger will most certainly win the Oscars, but I wouldn't bet all my money of Penelope Cruz. Viola Davis or Marisa Tomei may upset.
