‘Sin City 2′ Stalled or Totalled?

What is the status of the movie we all want to see

Perhaps it is because the Weinstein Co. thinks the only people clamoring for a Sin City 2 are the few that went and saw Grindhouse. However, the first Sin City made $74 million compared to the $24 million that Grindhouse made. So, to think that Sin City 2 is being stalled for that reason is silly, but not if you ask Michael Madsen.

In an interview with Premiere Madsen was quoted saying the following about Sin City 2:

Some of the other things that you have got coming up include Sin City 2.

They haven’t shot it yet. I don’t know if they ever will. I am not sure [about] the franchise. I think the Grindhouse thing didn’t kind of work out… I don’t know what effect that is going to have on making Sin City 2.

Have you seen the script for Sin City 2 yet?

No. I talk to Frank Miller quite often. He came up to my house and we drank a lot of tequila. Frank is pretty funny. I haven’t seen the script for Sin City 2. I don’t know if they are gonna make it. I hope they do. And if and when they do, I will be in it.

With all that it doesn’t really sound all that good, but wait, there is more to consider.

First off Frank Miller has The Spirit and Robert Rodriguez has Barbarella to consider. One would speculate these studio projects, especially Barbarella, might get in the way of a smaller venture such as Sin City and based on what Miller told RottenTomatoes that is just the case:

Of course, by stroke of coincidence we learned just before we sat down with Miller that Robert Rodriguez had been signed onto a remake of the classic sixties sex flick “Barbarella.” So what of “Sin City 2″? Rumours swirl that the project has been stalled by the breakdown of Rodriguez’ marriage. “Sin City 2 is still likely to happen,” says Miller, “just not right away. The script is written and Robert and I are raring to go, but it looks like I’m going to be doing The Spirit first and Robert’s going to be doing Barbarella first.”

So there you have it, I am guessing the earliest we would see Sin City 2 would be late 2008, but don’t be surprised if it worms its way into early 2009, perhaps April which is the same month the first one went off and made its $74 mil.
