Second Trailer for Scorsese's 'Shutter Island' Washes Ashore

It was supposed to be in theaters today

The release of Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island is going to be an interesting one next February 19 as it was originally set to debut today. Once considered an Oscar contender, the adaptation of the Dennis Lehane novel will now potentially kick off a year-long Oscar campaign, satisfy as an early year blockbuster or end up proving there's a reason it was moved to a less-than-stellar calendar slot. Either way, you can't help but be interested.

Now Paramount is hoping to get you even more intrigued with the second full trailer for the film, which stars Mark Ruffalo as U.S. Marshal Chuck Aule, who travels with his new partner (DiCaprio) to the eponymous Massachusetts island in 1954. As they investigate the disappearance of a patient from a hospital for the criminally insane, they encounter a web of lies, a hurricane and a deadly inmate riot that leaves them trapped on the island.

You can check out the trailer directly below or in high definition at Apple. Once you're done with that you can get more information on the film right here.

Looks like they cut a new trailer with only a few changes just so they could display the new release date of February 2010. Nothing changes though, still very excited to see the film, but the first trailer was better. That is one boatload of talent in a single film.

@Scott: Somehow I like this trailer a bit better. This one gives just enough hint of the trap that Dicaprio and Ruffalo seem to be falling into to have it make a little bit more sense and increase the intrique. That's just me.

I, too, wonder why the new date, Brad.

I liked both trailers, and I'm very excited to see it. But I'm a little surprised they took out something about "From Director Martin Scorsese," or something to that effect. You'd think that would be something to leave in the trailer to get people's attention.
