'S. Darko' to Change What Happened in 'Donnie Darko'?

Fans are not going to be happy with this...

Briana Evigan
MTV caught up with Briana Evigan, the recent star of Step Up 2 and upcoming star of S. Darko, the follow-up to Richard Kelly's cult-classic Donnie Darko, which is moving forward without any participation from the first film's creator. As someone that really didn't like Donnie Darko I don't really care about the sequel or how much it craps on the original, but I can understand why the die-hard fans of the original would be upset, and I don't think the quotes MTV recently got from Evigan are going to help as much as they are going to fuel the flames of hatred.

S. Darko centers on best friends Corey and Samantha. Samantha (Daveigh Chase) is Donnie's sister and Corey (Evigan) is her best friend. The two will be on a road trip to Los Angeles, and both will be harnessing the hallucinations and time-travel abilities that once plagued Samantha's older brother. Yup, both of them will have Donnie's power and Evigan confirms that the only returning member of the first film will be Frank the giant rabbit.

When asked about the film Evigan said, "It's basically about going back in time and changing something. My character is named Corey - she's a selfish, badass kind of girl. She ends up switching a moment in time to take her life - [to help] somebody else, her best friend. It goes into all different dimensions, but it's really about turning something around for somebody else, and being able to go back and have another chance.

"I have the power too," Evigan explained. "It's a really cool, fun script. But it's darker, and I hope everybody understands it."

Hopes everyone understands it eh?

Evigan goes on to call the script "very twisted" and then says something that may actually enrage fans, "We just come back [in time] and change what happened in the first one."

Richard Kelly hasn't denounced the film, but he has made it quite clear he is not involved and will never be involved. When asked about it Evigan replied, "That's fine. We've got new people working on it. We have a great cast, a great director, a great producer. So, I think it's going to be fine. We've just got to make it work with our acting, what we're doing, and hope everyone enjoys it."

She also said she hopes Kelly gives it a chance and will give it a stamp of approval. I wonder if that would be enough to satisfy the die-hards.

As a huge fan of the original, Im not enraged...Im just indifferent. If Kelly had been involved in the least, I would question it. I do think its odd that theyd try to to make this movie in the first place, let alone bring back Frank... I just dont see it working.

But in the end, who really gives a shit...itll go straight to dvd, and we who DO like the original can just pretend this POS didnt happen.

This is one stupid idea...I'm not giving this a shot unless it gets spectacular reviews.

I'm disappointed that Seth Rogen isn't reprising his role as Bully #2 or whatever

That would've made for a better sequel.
