Rumor Has Vadim Perelman Directing 'Poltergeist' Remake

Another rumor says this film doesn't need to be made...

The Hollywood Reporter reinforced a rumor that started at Bloody-Disgusting saying that House of Sand and Fog helmer Vadim Perelman may in fact be the one to direct the remake Poltergeist remake for MGM.

Brad Miska at Bloody-Disgusting believes this film is too "important" to give it to Perelman, which is crazy talk. The film is such a bad idea it doesn't matter who directs it. I also don't quite understand what makes it important? A Poltergeist movie isn't going to solve the oil crisis or deliver Bristol Palin's baby is it? I don't get it.

However, while I don't agree with Miska regarding the "importance" of the film I do think Perelman is an odd choice. This guy made House of Sand and Fog in 2003 and then in 2007 his film The Life Before Her Eyes was buried in the release schedule. He was at one point attached to direct The Talisman based on the Stephen King and Peter Straub novel, but that fell through. I am sure any horror fan would be wary of someone of Perelman's filmmaking experience and I would bet that is what Miska was getting at.

Outside of the rumored attachment there isn't any additional news regarding the remake which is being penned by Juliet Snowden and Stiles White. I would be willing to bet it may be a while before this film gets off the ground as a rewrite or two seem almost inevitable.
