UPDATED: Robert Rodriguez's 'Predator' Reboot has a Release Date
Maybe he will actually make this movie

UPDATED: For some reason I overlooked an important piece of the ERC story which says "no writer or director has been hired as of yet." This is a contradiction to Variety's story, which says Rodriguez scripted Predators, but I now notice never says he will direct. Perhaps he is simply producing this one and they are looking for someone to do a rewrite or perhaps pen a brand new script. Original story follows…
Well, I'm not sure if this means much or not, but Exhibitor Relations is reporting the proposed Robert Rodriguez Predator reboot discussed in today's Rodriguez update has already set a release date. 20th Century Fox has apparently secured a July 7, 2010 release date for Predators a film scripted by the Sin City helmer.
Predators is a reboot the alien film franchise started in 1987 with Arnold Schwarzenegger, which spawned a sequel and two cross-over Alien vs. Predator films in 2004 and 2007.
Rodriguez has Shorts coming out on August 7 and the early news said he was going to begin filming Machete, the blade-wielding antihero who appeared in a mock trailer that was part of Grindhouse played by Danny Trejo, this June. On top of that he is expected to deliver Nerverackers for the Weinstein Co. on April 16, 2010, four months prior to this new date for Predators.
What will he actually make and what will fall by the way-side? Well, I'm going to assume the proposed remakes of Barbarella and Red Sonja are out even though a couple of pieces of artwork for the latter film featuring Rose McGown as the title character were released at last year's Comic Con.
But even further, where does this put Sin City 2? A film many doubted Rodriguez would actually direct even though he continues to mention it. I wouldn't be surprised if Frank Miller took the reins on this one alone and Rodriguez simply produced it.
