RMR: Tarantino Reviews Movies, 'Iron Man 2' in 3D, Un-Wired 'Oz' and More

The Bens are gone and Worthington claims dump truck-sized scorpions

If you weren't a fan of the Bens on "At the Movies" get ready for a 180 as the new team made up of Chicago Tribune's Michael Phillips and the New York Times' A.O. Scott as the video to the right gives you your first look at the new movie reviewing duo. The video blatantly says to me, "Sorry about the joke we played on you with Lyons and Mankiewicz, here are two guys who know what they're talking about."

Lionsgate let everyone know via Twitter that Kick-Ass will arrive on April 16, 2010 and Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables will hit theaters on August 20, 2010. Then we learn Star Trek will be heading back to IMAX this Friday for a two week run. And we also learn Jean-Pierre Jeunet's Micmacs a tire-larigot has been picked up by Sony Pictures Classics.

Just like Avatar, tickets for The Twilight Saga: New Moon are now on sale more than two months in advance.

Just to the right is the first look at the set of the unnecessary MacGruber adaptation from the annoying "Saturday Night Live" skit. You can get the full-sized image and four others, including a look at Ryan Phillippe, at Just Jared.

Word from Ain't It Cool News is there is a one-minute test reel of Iron Man 2 converted into high quality digital 3D. This has AICN's Harry Knowles wondering if Iron Man 2 will be entirely converted to 3D and whether or not the rest of Marvel's upcoming slate will go to the geek gimmick. Gawd… I hope not. [AICN]

Sam Worthington was recently talking to MTV about his upcoming feature Clash of the Titans and was quoted saying, "What these guys and Louis [Leterrier] have set out to do is raise the richter [scale] to 11, in the sense of, the scorpions are the size of dump trucks, Medusa is a lot quicker and a lot more scarier, and the whole world itself is… big and epic in scope." [MTV]

I'm not sure how many of you know this already, but on top of the September 29 release of The Wizard of Oz on Blu-ray (details here), the film will also head into theaters for special promotional screenings across the country in all its fully restored glory.

That said, Jeffrey Wells at Hollywood Elsewhere was wondering if this restoration would also involve digitally erasing the visible-wires from the film. Wells was able to confirm with WHV senior vp George Feltenstein that the wires have indeed been digitally erased. There is more to the story and it's a pretty good read, head here for the complete write-up.

Bloody Disgusting is reporting a rumor saying Steve Miner (Halloween:H20) may be the one to direct Halloween 3D, although the consider the rumor "highly unlikely." [Bloody Disgusting]

If you like pictures, I have 12 images from the upcoming sequel The Descent: Part 2 in a brand new gallery right here and some images from a few other films. Here are the details:

TwitchFilm.net offers up the above image, which is the first look at The Host 2. No word on whether or not this is an actual image from the movie or just early test effects, but according to ScreenDaily the Korea Creative Contents Agency (KOCCA) has announced that The Host 2 is the winner of its Global Projects Technology Development Support Program. The programme grants government funds of $1.51m to production company Chungeorahm and its CGI partner Macrograph to research and develop CGI for The Host 2 by May 2011. Not a bad deal eh?

Quentin Tarantino did a little programming at Sky Movies and here are three reviews that came as a result. Thanks to Anne Thompson for the heads up.

Is this possible Iron Man 3-D thing a part of Marvel's new Disney overlords, or is it still Paramount? Either way, if they make Iron Man 2, and then the entire Avengers franchise, into 3-D, I swear my interest and faith may start to buckle. Call me fickle if you want, but this franchise was gonna be great cause it would create a big awesome creative universe, not give into money-making gimmicks.

I am stoked for 3-D for Avatar, Alice in Wonderland, the 3 Toy Story's, and Nightmare Before Christmas 3-D, because they can logically play into that format. But otherwise I'm really getting sick of everything being produced in 3-D

I liked that ending tribute Trantino gave Anderson at the end of the There Will be Blood review (brilliant movie by the way for those who haven't seen it). It is great to see how two directors can evolve in quality by being inspired by each other.

I'm glad that to see that someone like Tarantino can still appreciate the beauty of Sunshine. I've been telling my friends all how good it is, cos it didn't get much of a run in the cinema in the UK, as far as I can tell, but all they come back with is how bad the end is and how i'm on crack if I enjoyed it. Anyway, the way he describes it is exactly how I feel, the 3rd act does get pretty stupid, but the rest of it is so aesthetically perfect that I still love it all the same.

I dont see it being that cost/time effective to make Ironman 2 3D, I mean, all the people who r going to see Iron Man will most likely see it whether its in 3D or not, been hearing a lot of negative comments about this one.

Yay to the new At the Movies and possibly Iron Man 3D (which would be as cool a use as it would be for "Avatar", I think), not so much for "MacGruber", "Halloween 3D" or "The Descent Part 2" (why must they tamper with what I consider the best horror film of the past 10 years?).

Also, did anyone here enjoy "The Host" as much as I did? And by as much, I mean, not at all. Ok, I give it points for its satirical screenplay & its new take on the monster-movie genre, but the tone was all over the place and completely threw me off the movie.
