Ricky Gervais too 'Scared' to Host Oscars

Too bad us Americans can't make a Brit comfy-cozy

Ricky Gervais

The idea of a Ricky Gervais hosted Oscar ceremony is just too good to be true and unfortunately it won't be happening. Gervais was infact approached to do the gig reports BBC but told them he would be "scared" to do it because "I don't think I'd get the freedom I needed".

He added, "If it was a fun night and they said you could ad-lib, I'd do it because I really enjoy that."

Argh, now doesn't that just twist your cockles?

Makes sense, and Gervais has a pretty good lock on what the duty would entail saying, "No-one's there to hear jokes, they're there to see if they've won an Oscar… If it was a fun night and they said you could ad-lib, I'd do it because I really enjoy that." He referred to the task as a "thankless act".

So where does that leave us? Jon Stewart, Ellen DeGeneres…? I know Jerry Seinfeld has been mentioned in the past but I don't see that happening either

Seinfeld? I hope not, he's just not funny
Jon Stewart is and at least he can make jokes from the telepromter seem spontanious.

It allways surprises me when professional actors come on stage to present an award and read out a joke so wooden it's embarassing.

I think most candidates from the world of comedy will have a problem with the lack of freedom. Gervais this year and Sacha Baron Cohen last year.
It's surprising Chris Rock ever did it considering is usual work isn't exactly all ages or PC.

How about Robert Downey, Jr? I think he could be a very good and funny host.
