MGM toppers Harry Sloan and Mary Parent announced the [Red Dawn] remake -- along with a big-budget rebuild of "RoboCop," which director Darren Aronofsky among others has recently been in to discuss -- in May at the Festival de Cannes.Doth my eyes deceive me? Aronofsky? For RoboCop? Of course, the mention is a mere high note in what is probably a list that includes no one else of note. When I read "among others" in a Hollywood rag it is typically because the others weren't mentioning.
Getting back to Red Dawn for a sec, a film that starred Patrick Swayze, C. Thomas Howell and Charlie Sheen as the dawn of World War III is about to break out in mid-western America by invading Soviet forces.
In terms of the new film, Ellsworth told THR, "The tone is going to be very intense, very much keeping in mind the post-9/11 world that we're in. As 'Red Dawn' scared the heck out of people in 1984, we feel that the world is kind of already filled with a lot of paranoia and unease, so why not scare the hell out of people again?"
I don't really remember much about Red Dawn except for the deer blood drinking scene, go ahead and enjoy it for yourself as well... Damn it makes me queasy just thinking about it.
