Pitt and Macdonald Unite for ‘State of Play’

Carnahan penned script gets the green

Talk about a movie I already want to see. First we get a script from Matthew Michael Carnahan (The Kingdom, Lions for Lambs, White Jazz), a director in Kevin Macdonald (The Last King of Scotland) and Brad Pitt set to star… you know who he is and what he has been in. So, of course I have never actually seen any of Carnahan’s films but all of them sound interesting, Macdonald’s Last King of Scotland was outstanding and Brad Pitt is the man, you know it, I know it, we all know it. So, to get to the point, the three are set to contribute to State of Play for Universal Pictures.

The Carnahan penned script centers on a congressman’s mistress who is killed, and a team of investigative reporters secretly work with a police detective to solve the murder. Pitt will play a reporter who was once close to the congressman but now heads an investigation that leads to the highest levels of government and industry.

The pic is an Americanized version of the acclaimed British miniseries of the same name. The film is slated to shoot in November.
