'Pirates of the Caribbean' Helmer Up for Animated Pic as His Next
Gore moves from pirates to animation

I never saw the Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts starrer The Mexican and I thought The Weather Man starring Nic Cage looked awful, so my only experience with director Gore Verbinski is The Ring and the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy. Personally I loved The Ring, thought the first Pirates flick was fantastic and don't necessarily believe Verbinski's direction was the overall problem with the Pirates sequels, even though they were a bit bloated, so I can safely say I have confidence in Gore, and look forward to his next film. What will that next film be? I think we can say it won't be a Pirates 4 (at least not yet despite Internet rumor), but it does look like an animated film may be the answer.
Variety reports Graham King has teamed with Gore Verbinski on an animated tale that John Logan will write. Here's the only problem… No word on what it is about, which makes this story a bit silly (sorry).
King will produce the pic under his GK Films house and both Verbinski and King said they want to make an animated film. "It's the first movie I've ever done that I can take my kids to," said King. "I've been looking to do movies that play to audiences of all ages."
Recent films King has produced include The Departed, Blood Diamond and The Aviator.
The untitled animated flick is still in the very early stages due to the writers strike, and is projected for a 2010 release. Budget won't be set until after the script is written but is expected to be about $100 million.
