Peter Berg Directing 'Dune' Remake

I guess I will finally have to watch the original

Peter Berg

Universal sent me the original David Lynch directed Dune on HD DVD and I tried to watch it late one night, but I fell asleep and never tried again. However, now that Peter Berg has confirmed that he will in fact be directing a remake of the film saying, "if it weren’t for the writer’s strike, we’d be in it right now."

Interestingly enough, it seems Berg is planning on more of a redo rather than a remake as he will be going back to the source material and not working off of Lynch's film. Berg told MTV he is a big fan of the Frank Herbert classic and that while he’s "a big fan of Lynch," he believes "that interpretation has left the door wide open for a remake."

He also confirms his involvement in the Edwin A. Salt feature with Tom Cruise calling the script about a CIA agent on the run after being accused of being a spy "great" and "a great role for Tom."

So it seems Berg's future is set.
