Peter Berg In Talks to Direct 'Battleship'
Not sure I understand how this is an adaptation
I have no idea why they are saying this film is a big-screen version of Hasbro's board game "Battleship" considering such a thought is ludicrous, but that's the word as The Hollywood Reporter says Peter Berg is in talks to direct such a film.
There is no word on a script, but word is the studio is looking to make an epic naval action adventure. Jon and Erich Hoeber have signed on to write the script. The Hoeber brothers penned the upcoming summer release Whiteout starring Kate Beckinsale as well as Summit's comic-book adaptation Red, which has Bruce Willis in talks to star.
As I am sure most of you know, "Battleship" is a board game in which two players try to guess where their opponents have hid their five ships on a grid. In the process you "hit" their ships the appropriate number of times and ultimately sink their battleships. How such a thing gets turned into a film adaptation is beyond me, but I can only assume it has to do with the fact it will be called an adaptation of the game, which will in turn hopefully sell more games for Hasbro as well as give Universal Pictures some money for production costs.
However, it appears Hasbro is already learning to adapt with "Battleship" as a new version is already set to come out in conjunction with the August 7 release of G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, get a load of the box art below.
