Pattinson Circling 'Memoirs' As Jenny Lumet Preps Rewrite

What's the chance Pattinson will become a star?

I know Twilight and Robert Pattinson fans will respond with shouts of "Hell yes!" but I have to wonder of Pattinson can become a bankable movie star or if we are in for a short term teen crush sensation that will soon die out once Eclipse ends the theatrical run of Twilight filmed adaptations by mid-2010. Pattinson is smoldering in the teen-bop spotlight at the moment, something that used to be the home of such established stars as Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio. What's the chance Pattinson follows in their footsteps?

With two more Twilight films on order as well as the upcoming May release of the indie feature Little Ashes, Pattinson is now apparently looking to expand even further as he is in talks to star in Memoirs for Summit Entertainment, a romance-drama in which Rachel Getting Married scribe, Jenny Lumet, is aboard to rewrite and Hollywoodland helmer Allen Coulter is in talks to direct.

The original script was penned by Will Fetters and centers on a pair of star-crossed lovers who meet and fall in love while struggling to deal with family tragedies that threaten their relationship.

Following Little Ashes, Pattinson will next be seen in The Twilight Saga: New Moon on November 20.

Summit seem to be putting together a good team around Pattinson for this film. I think you underestimate how smart the guy is. He knows its all about the script now that he's made his name. Give him a little credit rather than fawning over the yawn inducing Efron.

No one will ever cast Pattinson in a legitimate role after he ruined his career doing the Twilight films!

You forgot "Breaking Dawn"–there's four Twilight books in all, and just because they haven't announced the fourth one yet doesn't mean they won't make it. After that?

Well, BEFORE Twilight Robert Pattinson had a part in a little $900-million-grossing film called "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire." So one thing for sure is that he won't be remembered only for "Twilight" because he was Cedric Diggory three years before he was Edward Cullen. After Twilight, though, it's hard to say. Hopefully he'll go the way of Leonardo DiCaprio and become a better actor who makes legitimately good films, even if they don't do as well at the box office (not that DiCaprio's box office has been poor; 3 of his films since "Titanic" have made over $100 million in the U.S.).

I have seen Rob in most of his previous work including The Haunted Airman, Bad Mother's Handbook, etc. I am going to see How to Be on Saturday and am looking forward to Little Ashes. Rob has unlimited Talent and is a very serious actor, which I think people overlook because of his incredible sense of humor, especially about himself. I am not a teenager or a young adult, I am a grandmother and probably one of Rob's biggest fans. Looking forward to all Rob's future work and I will be at every one.

He has got that Leo/Depp combo thing going for him. I think he will be able to rise to their status if he chooses his projects wisely in the future. Yeah, and ten years from now I'd rather watch movies starring him than bland Efron.

On a side note: Why don't we ever get a female version of RP? Intelligent, talented, classy, incredibly funny, gorgeous with a quirky personality. I think she will be highly appreciated by men and women alike. Who was the last actress to have ALL of these traits?

@JM: You're really gonna give Pattinson credit for the success of Harry Potter? HA! He was a putz in that movie and I wouldn't even give him credit as a supporting role of any kind for his bland performance.

Another romantic role? Considering how bad he is as an actor this is a good choise: to be a hunk again, and not a decent actor. This guy won´t go far after the franchise is over. He´s nowhere near the talented guys like Leonardo di Caprio or Johnny Depp. Smart but no talented. Sad but true.

Agree. He´s laughable as an actor and ridiculous as musician. I like the guy but he is not talented at all. Just another cute piece of meat. Next one, please!

Leonardo di Caprio was already an incredibly talented actor BEFORE the blockbusters came out. Have you seen him playing Rimbaud? Or that film with De Niro? Or that boy suffering from autism in Gilbert Grape, with Johnny Depp? Oh please don´t compare a true artist like him with the last flavour of the month! It piss me off!

I don´t want to be crue but I agree with the three above. Pattinson talks too much, plays always the humble cutie but can´t do anything but to be a good piece of wood with a moptop. For me he´s seeking for money, is greedy as everyone else in Hollywood. I hope I´m wrong and he´s really genuine as he wanna show us in interviews, but somehow I can´t belive him. Only 13 years old believe he NEVER LIES. What a bad joke…

Robert Pattinson did excellent in "Twilight" granted the movie didnt show some key parts of the book I still think that Robbert did a nice job. and there are four books and to end the movie series so that it wont piss twilight fans off they will most likley be forced to make the last book into a movie. and people need to stop believing this crap about Rob being an alcoholic its rude and a cleaverly untrue fib. I mean seriously i know journalist are suppose to write gossip, but do they really have to be such assholes? they could've cost Rob his job! and i dont care if he's greedy everyone is we're in america everyone here is fat stupid and out in the world for sex and money! Frankly im happy for him and hope he does just as well in the next few movies.

What the hell are they thinking doing a mediocre choice again? Just cashing in? What a hypocrite, with all those anti-hollywood-money statements. The guy is greedy as hell! Shoot yourself and go back to London. No one will miss you except all that dumbest fanbase of yours, of course. and to think he likes to compare himself with James Dean! This guy´s a big joke.

Wow! Incredible how already he has so many haters! But I don´t like the idea of another romantic movie as well. It´s cheesy, after so many Twilight´s movies coming out one after another…It´s really like another money-grabbing machine to me.

I saw Haunted Airma non youtube and he has the same amateurish/wooden performance he shows in Twilight. I´m afraid his carrer won´t be lasting long, as many have already predicted. Really can´t see him as Leonardo di Caprio. He´s nowhere near as talented as the Titanic actor. It´s sad ´cause he´s a nice guy. But as everyone knows, Hollywood is a jungle and Rob doesn´t seem to have the passion for acting as so many there in the industry. So it´s a matter of time to me. I just wonder how many years he´ll last.

Money, money, and money. That´s all about folks. He´ll lick the floor with his tongue if it nedds to, guys. I already heard from a Paris film guy involved in New Moon production that he´s becoming an arrogant ass, with a thousand of demands (which includes his paycheck ´course), whilst Kristenstewart is an adorable girl, who really don´t care about money at all. I understand why he has already so many haters…

They´re hating Rob ´cause they hate his neurotic fans. Rob´s a average looking nice guy (and a incredibly bad actor), nothing more than that, but the cult-like followers he has really irritates everyone. What all those people need so badly that all the thing has to be this sickening? And to think there are grown women among them is a shock and makes me feel scary. I imagine what the hell their husbands are thinking of them…America´s in a bad moment really. I even feel sorry for the guy that more than once have stated how he hates his fanatic fanbase.

I think so many of you have got it all wrong about Rob. I don't think he is someone who demands anything extra on the set or otherwise. If everything he has goes away right now, he will still be the same guy, humble, shy and down to earth with a sense of humor and his simple way of living. He would just grab his guitar and willl play music. He is a good actor and a musician and has done different characters and challenging roles until now and he is not someone who will grab any movie that comes to him. He is only 22 and has a long way to go. His future is bright and i wish him all the best in everything he does.

I am not a teenager who has crush on Rob, I am a Mom and I know if I had a son like Rob, I would be so proud not because he is famous or is in movies but because of his character(except smoking part). May be i love him (as a son or little brother) because he reminds me of my only brother who passed away last year who used to be shy like Robert. Robert is such a wonderful soul in side. You can see through to him.

Rob´s a wonderful soul? You guys don´t know him and you believe everything he says in interviews? OMG what a naive bunch of women you are…It´s hilarious to think he´s so smart deceiving people, make therm think he´s REALLY not demanding, honest, modest, not a man whore, not a greedy Hollywood whore…you really deserve more movies from a joke-actor like him.
