Patrick Swayze Dies at the Age of 57

2009 claims another big name

Patrick Swayze's publicist reports the actor has passed away at the age of 57 following a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

Reports began surfacing this weekend saying the actor best known for his roles in Dirty Dancing and Ghost had returned home for his final days.

"Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months," said a statement released Monday evening by his publicist, Annett Wolf. No other details were given.

Swayze had most recently played the role of Charles Barker on the A&E television show "The Beast" and was last seen in 2009's little seen Powder Blue. "The Beast" was cancelled after 13 episodes after it was reported the show would not continue without Swayze's involvement. "There's no way it was going to happen without Patrick," People magazine quoted a source as saying.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years Lisa Niemi.

RIP Patrick. You know, for being one of my favorite actors, I don't really think I've seen enough of his movies. I think I'm gonna put Point Break, Dirty Dancing, and some others at the top of my Netflix queue. The industry won't be the same without you, Patrick. See you on the other side.
