Paramount Announces 'There Will be Blood' DVD… and HD DVD

Look for it in April

Despite the fact that Toshiba has abandoned HD DVD and will stop production on anything HD DVD related at the end of this month and now Universal announcing it will make the switch to Blu-ray, Paramount is standing strong and has added yet another title to their HD DVD release slate in the form of There Will be Blood as it represents its eight Oscar-nominations and guaranteed win for star Daniel Day-Lewis.

Along with a single disc release Paramount is also releasing a DVD and HD DVD 2-Disc Collector's Edition with the following special features on both.

  • Additional Scenes
  • "The Story of Petroleum" featurette
  • There Will Be Blood – Pics, Research, Etc
  • "Dailies Gone Wild" featurette
  • Trailers

The discs will be yours to own come April 8th, but I wouldn't be too surprised if a Blu-ray version gets added to that release. I can only assume they already pressed the HD DVD editions and it wouldn't make sense to scrap them now, may as well get as much as you can for them.

This news almost makes me want an HD-DVD player, regardless if it's a dead format.

Hmm. This is the answer that most people give in regards to HD-DVD or Blue Ray.

I'll stick with my regular DVD. Why would I pay 600 bucks for a player that shows about 20% better. My regular DVD works fine.

I agree, I can see if this was an entirely different format like from VHS to DVD , but it's just an upgrade.
