Papa Bush and Mama Bush Cast in Stone’s ‘W’

A couple of solid names join the cast

James Cromwell

Oliver Stone has added two more names to his George W. Bush biopic simply titled W by adding James Cromwell as George Herbert Walker Bush and Ellen Burstyn as the former first lady Barbara Bush. Both seem like really good choices as they will be joining Josh Brolin as George W. and Elizabeth Banks as Laura Bush.

Stone is directing from a script by Wall Street scripter Stanley Weiser and is set to begin shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana, at the end of April. The pic will cover President George W. Bush’s (Brolin) transformation from a substance-abusing underachiever through a conversion to Christianity. Stone said it will deal with Bush’s belief that God wanted him to be president, and the story leads up to the invasion of Iraq.

The early portion of the story should shed light on the casting of two younger actors to play the 61-year-old George and Laura Bush as a few complaints began online with regard specifically to the casting of Banks recently.

The film is expected to be make a quick turnaround and be ready for distribution possibly by the November presidential elections and certainly before Bush leaves the White House in January.
