Pair of 'Heroes' Writers Get the Boot

Perhaps they will try and save the show

I haven't watched "Heroes" since the season three premiere, but I do still have it in my Netflix Instant queue and may return to it before the DVD release late next year, but based on the previews I have seen and the audience reactions it doesn't seem like it would really be of any benefit. However, NBC appears to be interested in saving the show that Entertainment Weekly felt it was in such trouble that they recently made it their cover story giving "Five Ways to Fix a Series In Crisis".

Word has just arrived via Variety that co-exec producers/writers Jesse Alexander and Jeph Loeb have been axed from the production. Variety says both had been with the show since its first season and were known to have led the day-to-day production operation under the direction of creator/exec producer Tim Kring. It also says both were let go due to frustration with the creative direction of the show.

Since I haven't been watching I can't say exactly what the problems with the show are specifically, but here's EW's list of issues:

  1. Too many Heroes
  2. Absurd plot twists
  3. Overheightened reality
  4. Stale storytelling
  5. Heroes is too disposable

Even though I haven't been watching I would say Ali Larter and Hayden Panettiere are also a pair of problems as well as Greg Grunberg and his power requiring him to cock his head and stare at people, but what do I know?

Anyone out there still watching "Heroes"? Have you given up on it yet or are you still holding out hope?

No idea what you or the article is talking about.
The show is very awesome, and I watch it religiously.

The only thing I don't like about it is that yes there are too many characters, and it's a bit confusing at times trying to remember and keep track of everything going on.
However, those things do not make the show necessarily bad, just something I think they could easily fix.

I'm going to have to agree with khristopher. I think the show is amazing, and I watch it every monday. Except for this monday…but that's because SNL is on… ANYWAYS.

I would also like to point out that Hayden Panettiere, Ali Larter and Greg Grunberg are greats actors, and play a big part in the show. How are you annoyed by Grunberg's character, and not Masi Oka's scrunched-up-back-in-time-face?

But, overall, I'm not upset about the writer's getting fired. Heroes can be a little, over-dramamtic at times.

I haven't actually gotten very far beyond season 1 yet but I'll definitely go on with it.

It can be hard to keep up sometimes but the large cast allso has it's charm.
They're all linked to eachother and slowly understanding how is fascinating. It could've been a standard good vs evil show but it has more depth because of all the back-stories that, in hind-sight, are related.

I was really disappointed in last season because I thought season 1 was pretty fun. I swore that if season 3 sucked too I was giving up on the show. I'm still watching. Its not quite as good as season 1, but I'm actually pretty damn happy with season 3, though it has had its share of frustrating moments. I like the overall direction they've gone with.

Phobia, I actually am annoyed by Masi's character, but I thought coming down on all the annoyances would be a little unfair. I also am one of the few that enjoyed the second season more than the first.
